Fine idea!

By the way, I didnā€™t realize you guys filmed your political discussions as well as posting them on Forumosa til I came across this yesterday. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yp_l5ntikaU

All the best, its been fun

Revisionist history? Yeah none of that on here lol. I wouldnā€™t care about deleting my posts but itā€™s pretty unusually to not be able to do it. Now I know why there are only about 20 active posters on here and hundreds of members. I screen shot anything important such as when I get called ā€œgob shiteā€ but the post is left up despite it being flagged. Iā€™m apparently not allowed to return the insult or Iā€™d get banned. I would suggest that anyone who feels unfairly treated or represented on this forum to take screen shots. No one is above the law not even online. Apart from that itā€™s quite an entertaining forum and not to be taken seriously at all. However some screen shots would be advisable.

Post under a different name obviously. And donā€™t meet or socialise with anyone on here then you can be forgotten. You could use a proxy server too. Too much trouble for a forum like this though. Whatā€™s the worst that can happen ā€œOh there is the guy that likes Donald Trumpā€ lol

This is an example of a poster who spent too much time arguing in the IP forum. Itā€™s given them a skewed view of the fora as a whole. :money_mouth_face:

Dude, not sure why youā€™re getting bent out of shape. Just stay out of the politics forum. I (mostly) stay away since I also hate Trump. Thereā€™s no winning with those guys. The few times Iā€™ve dipped in there, I always regret it. Not because I get proven wrong through logic, but you just get overwhelmed and exhausted by the endless replies of those who support Trump, which does outnumber those who donā€™t here.

But thereā€™s other interesting discussions to be had here and I enjoy those.

Well , I have always tried my best to not be abusive , however politics and religion can be divisive on any platform . I also try to listen to the other view , but it is a discussion forum at the end of the day . It should be fun and I do give up sometimes and prefer the amusing aspect to cheer me up . Diversity is strength ā€¦ no wait :joy:

Iā€™m pretty sure having an inactive account here wonā€™t keep you from focusing on other things, but I could be wrong.

Maybe this should be a FAQ.

Q. How can I delete my account?
A. Now why would you want to do that? Heh hehā€¦
A. What, and mess with the historical record? That shitā€™s sacrosanct.
A. You need to think about the direction of your life, you loser / wanker / wretched person with unresolved issues.

Legal rights would depend on location. Again I ask, what is the legal address of the site? (It used to be posted somewhere.)

I think itā€™s the USA.

One thing we can do is ā€œanonymizeā€ an account

? That was removed

Hmmm, I wouldnā€™t stay in a place myself if that was my attitude about it and the people there.

Iā€™m not sure we need one. Iā€™ll ask later

Can we update the terms of service at least? Currently itā€™s a template full of ā€œcompany_short_nameā€ markers.

In my experience here, the mods will delete or clean up posts that are attacking a person, eventually. On this and other forums, Iā€™ve had users act like jerks or harass other users. I donā€™t respond with attacks, but I ask the mods to take care of it and they usually do. At least they delete posts, but I think mods in any forums should give more warnings. While you get a notification when a post is deleted, who reads all their notifications.
If the mod of a particular forum isnā€™t helpful, you can always PM @GooseEgg po. Probably also the person to talk to about legal issues. Heā€™s nice, fair, and busy so you canā€™t expect a response that day.

With any more recent user account on Forumosa, the username can be changed or anonymized and posts can be deleted at least as far back as a year One issue might be that since Forumosa shifted over to Discourse, Iā€™ve seen quotes of users who I know have changed their usernames (not just started new accounts) still appear under their old usernames. Everyone has probably seen that on old posts quotes looked messed up. The old user names are still there.

In a forum, itā€™s really not possible to totally delete an account. Many of the posts would become gibberish with users replying to, arguing with, or commenting on posts that arenā€™t there.
Iā€™d keep an active account even I didnā€™t want to participate anymore. You never know when you might come back. I was gone for longer than I can remember, but came eventually.

Iā€™ve learned to ignore certain users here and elsewhere whose posts arenā€™t worth reading. Whether they are taking issue with something I wrote, or just posting nonsense, I value my time too much to give them any. Theyā€™re not always trolls. Some people have psychological problems or just arenā€™t that bright and being fairly anonymous makes it worse. If I see theyā€™ve posted anything, in response to me to about anything else, I might scan it but mostly pass it by.

As for the politics and religion forums, I turned those off as soon as I learned I could. Few people understand either well enough to bother reading what they post. There might be a few diamonds in the rough, but itā€™s a better use of time to find a good journal or real news article by someone whoā€™s done the research. You canā€™t argue with them if you disagree, but everyone should read things they disagree with now and then.

I wonder how many people will post thinking Iā€™m talking about them. Probably fewer since I ended with that.

I donā€™t really care itā€™s a useful Forum anyway. Debates get heated and just want to be able to retaliate fairly thatā€™s all.

Discobot tells us there are currently 55 members with Regular status (ie Trust Level 3 or higher). That number includes mods/admins/robots, but it still leaves about 40 humans/dogs/bears/cows/snakes/raccoons/masalas.

On the About page it says there have been over 400 active users in the past 7 days.

And how do we get regular status? Iā€™ve got one of the old accounts on here and Iā€™m active regularly but it never happens.

Ok, I donā€™t think Iā€™ll ever read 25% of of new posts.
