How to find a good job in a good location?

What are the best avenues for finding a decent English teaching gig in Taiwan? I’ve heard if you do it through a Facebook recruiter you will likely wind up in a school in the middle of nowhere?

Look for a school where the same foreign teachers have been working there for years and years. If the school posts every other month that they are looking for teachers, you can bet there are some internal issues.

In terms of location, check on Google Maps.

Facebook has lots of active groups. Most jobs posted on them though are fake.

With so few fob teachers your best bet is pick a school in a suburb you want to work in, dress nice and walk in and ask. They likely will offer you a job on the spot.

Why do they post fake teacher job adds on fb?

Your guess is as good as mine.

You just said most of them are fake … So which is it? They are fake or not? How do you know this?

This doesn’t reflect my experiences at all. I can’t talk about COVID times but, in general, from what I’ve experienced, the market for English teachers in the “good locations” (i.e. big cities with expat communities) has become very competitive in recent years. It’s hard to find a job at a good school in Taipei City without any experience. The days of just being able to walk into schools CV in hand without experience are over (I know because I tried it myself). It’s the same in Tokyo and other major Asian cities. You might have to do your time in the middle of nowhere just to get experience first (assuming you don’t have any). Unless you don’t mind working at some awful buxiban where you’re treated like crap or working under the table.
