How to get a PRC Visa in Hongkong?

Before you guys start to criticize me, I have done a search, but found nothing on this subject.

So here’s my question: Where and how do I get a visa for the PRC in Hongkong. I was told it cannot be done in Taiwan and one has to go to Hongkong first, which makes kind of sense. So has anybody ever done that? Please enlighten me…thank you.

Don’t feel bad about not finding anything on the net. I always get frustrated every time I have to renew my mainland visa because I can never find the details on the internet; comprehensive information just isn’t there. As far as I know, the only provider of visas for the mainland in HK is 中旅社. I think the name in English is something like “China Travel Service.” I think they were granted a monopoly on providing visas. They have branches all over the territory, but I imagine you are hoping to get this done and get over the border quickly, so you would want to go to the 尖沙咀 or Central branches. I think the normal period for getting a visa from these branches (the other ones are slower) is two or three business days. If you need it in the same day, you can pay more (they will gouge you). If you go to Jianshazui, you can just ask the MTR station workers or a cop where China Travel Service is. It is pretty close to the station and they probably tell foreigners how to go there all the time.

If you are hoping to just transfer planes in HK and not go into town, there is probably a way to do a visa at the airport; this is what a lot of Taiwanese people do for their tongbaozheng thingies, so I guess they might be able to do visas for foreigners, too. I don’t know how to do that, though, as I’ve never needed to. Perhaps a larger Taiwanese travel agency would be able to tell you if and how you can get a visa without leaving the HK airport.

However, it can be done in Taiwan. I had it done through my local travel agency, Interlink, twice, costs around 2,200 NT$ and takes 5 working days.
