Hsu Hsin-liang Switches sides

Can someone explain to me, why Xu Xinliang has switched sides?. I mean after all Xu’s lambasting of the DPP’s litany of corruption over past 8 years, and his favorite beef, which is “if you don’t like the ‘old’ KMT, then don’t support the DPP, because some of the worst, most rotten KMT stalwarts are now in the DPP camp (Chen Zhe Nan, Jian You Xin, etc etc.) - suddenly he thinks the sun shines out of their behinds. No silly ultra-green answers, please.

(currently I’m settling for ‘weasel who’s figured there’s more limelight for him in the green camp than blue’)

Switching sides has been Xu’s lifelong occupation.

He first joined the KMT, then was elected as an independent Taoyuan county chief, while in exile in the US he was apparently a socialist. Back in Taiwan as DPP chairman he was seen as too close to LTH (and was defeated by the anti-KMT wing led by Shih Ming-teh of all people), then ran as an independent for president in 2000. Yes, he was pro-blue and has now turned pro-Hsieh.

I can’t figure it out either, except that he always seems to be backing lost causes. Anyway, don’t lose any sleep over it, I think he’s far too insignificant to make much of an impact on anything anyway. See the one percent or something he got in 2000.

Damn, I don’t know who Xu Xinliang is, but this is most disappointing. I thought it was a lesbo thread and hoped to catch some good secret photos.

Is Xu Xinliang the former DPP chairman currently dying of cancer…?

I have to admit I don’t have the cast of past political figures clear in my head. Just trying to put a name to a face.

I think that is Shih Ming-de (who has liver cancer).

So that really is Xu Xinliang in the photo Maoman posted in his “Taiwan’s politicians are dorks” thread? I thought it must just be someone else who looked like him.

(Xu Xinliang = Hsu Hsin-Liang = 許信良)

There was an editorial about it in the United Daily News: 許信良帶來的訊息【聯合報╱黑白集 2008.02.28. I’m too tired to read it now but basically it’s saying that Frank Hsieh and these DPP old-guard people joining forces to manoever against Chen Shuibian.

If that’s Xu Xinliang, then he’s definitely the one who is supposed to be very ill. I’m not referring to Shih. Or at least that’s what my Taiwanese father in law had told me… Again, I’m not clear on the minor cast in Taiwanese politics.

You certainly aren’t clear if you think Hsu/Xu is a minor player.
