I want to visit some good place for three days or soo in Mid June.I am not sure if summer is good for Kenting or not. Can some one suggest which is better hualien or Kenting for three days or soo in june. And i also want to know what all is there in Hualien to see.
Not to be off topic, but did you consider the mountains in June? Ali-Shan or He huan shan are great places to escape the heat in the summertime. Up there around 3,000 meters you probably will need a light jacket in the summer time. Kind of like time travel actually.
I prefer the beaches in Taiwan when it is a little cooler, but that is me, I know the Taiwanese love the beach in the summer time and it gets really crowded, but still not nearly as crowded as in Western countries as Taiwan people don’t normally like to get a suntan.
I know Ali Mountain is good but i am not really a walking person plus i will be going with parents and they cant walk much.So basically i dont want anything where too much walking is required. Also i m not even sure if Ali mountain is good enough for 3 days…May be three days is bit too long for that…dont u think!!
I have shortlisted three places…kending, hualien and penghu island. Now i am not sure which will be better according to the summer season in june
Will you be renting a car? If so, you can go on a driving trip from Taipei, to Hualien, across the cross island expressway through the mountains of Toroko gorge then over to Ho Huan Shan, then to Sun Moon Lake and even down to Ken Ding if you want.
Alternatively, a few days relaxing at Cesar Park hotel in Kending is nice, or a three day romp and R and R around Penghu with a side trip over to Jibei. Rent a car and drive all over Penghu which to me has that Outer Banks feel to it when you start to drive around and get off the beaten path.
I detest Kenting–it’s a grubby little town with zero charm and no public beach. And it’s really, really hot with very high UV exposure in the summer.
I second Hobart’s suggestion that you try the mountains instead. You could go to Taroko Gorge for a couple of days and then drive down to the Southern Cross Highway in Taidong and over to Tainan. Some of Taiwan’s most beautiful scenery is in these two places. There are some very easy walks around Taroko and a fantastic outdoor hot spring (better on weekdays when it’s not so crowded).
Had at least one public beach the last few times I was there, has that changed, or did you not look very far? Personally I like Kending as a welcome break from Taipei. I find the locals there especially friendly and willing to chat. Got my only parking ticket in Taiwan there though :bluemad: As to being “really, really hot with very high UV exposure in the summer”, I don’t think Kending has a monopoly on that.
Dapeng Bay, Taiwan’s newest ocean playground should be open in June. The bay, actually a giant inland lagoon is just south of Pingtong.
As for Hualien, don’t forget we just had a big earthquake and many sections of the gorge are closed.
There are more than enough good beaches in the north. In fact more than enough to see inthe north for a few days. You could stay in cabins at Jinshan or Longmen, beside Fulong Beach. You can visit beaches, hotsprings, take short strolls along the cape at Bitou, eat seafood, visit Jiufen and Jingaushi, the second Nuclear Power Plant, Yehliu, the forts and relics at Keelung, take a boat to Turtle Island or Keelung Island, take the Pingxi line to see magnificent Shifen Waterfall, then go back down to Ilan to see Wufengchi Waterfall, and the new Centre for Traditional Arts, then head inland up to Pinglin for tea and a stroll along the river (maybe even a swim), or take the North Cross Island highway and stop at Lalashan for the old trees and peaches, Xiao Wulai for another spectacular waterfall, then Fuxing for coffee on the deck of the Youth Activity centre, former location of a Chiang, Kai-Shek villa (it’s gorgeous there) and maybe lunch at the Swiss Villa.
Your parents will see beautiful nature, eat good food, and also be exposed to some of the cultural attractions of Taiwan. They’ll be much more impressed with the place you live than if you take them to Kenting.
Forgot to mention that on the way back up from Fuxing you could stop in Yingge and Sansia.
By the way Hsinc, go to the tourist office across from the Sun yet Sen MRT stop and get some brochures. Also go online and check out Taiwan’s tourist websites. There is an immense amount of information in English now.
