Human Trafficking in Taiwan

Human trafficking to harvest organs in Cambodia.

“The original owner of the cargo has found another match, so he doesn’t want it.” In the end, Mr. Huang bought his own ticket to return to Taiwan and escaped death.

Lots of scammy arrangements involving Chinese speakers in Cambodia lately. We have a long thread detailing some of the stories we know . . .

I’ve suggested travel to Cambodia to a few Taiwanese friends these past few years and all of them have told me something to the effect of “no, because we’ll get kidnapped”.

There’s been so much bad press. Somehow English speakers are not part of these awful schemes, the scamsters are targeting Chinese speakers . . .

Has absolutely nothing to do with so many of the ring leaders being Chinese and Taiwanese I’m sure!

People in Taiwan tend to like to ignore the fact that it’s also a lot of Taiwanese hurting their own people. Meanwhile pointing their fingers at Cambodians as if we aren’t corrupt as fuck and trafficking people as we speak :unamused:

Smuggled hundreds of people into Taiwan mostly from Vietnam and three died.

10 people conspired to defraud Taiwanese people to go abroad for organ harvesting

taking advantage of Taiwan’s visa-free scheme to bring women from Thailand to work in the sex industry

the number of Thai women younger than 40 visiting Taiwan surged to 143,120 last year and reached 63,520 in the first five months of this year

Seen some coming in on the plane sometimes but never can tell if it’s legit sightseeing or what.
Used to see what looked like Taiwanese going to HK and other places doing the same thing.
Again never can know for sure.

Since Taiwan introduced the visa-free program, the number of Thai women younger than 40 visiting Taiwan surged from 39,231 in 2018 to 131,366 in 2019 before falling drastically to 19,261 in 2020, four in 2021 and 16,611 in 2022 because of the COVID-19 pandemic. After the nation’s borders reopened, the number surged to 143,120 last year and reached 63,520 in the first five months of this year.

Gotta admire the work ethic of those four determined women that still rocked up in 2021. I’m curious how they got in, given that the article seems to be implying that they’re prostitutes entirely because they’re Thai women younger than 40.

The comparison in the article lacks any context anyway. It’s not surprising that the number of visitors from Thailand increased after the visa-free program was introduced, because that was the entire purpose of the program.

The point would be whether the number of visitors who are Thai women younger than 40 (or whatever demographic is regarded as indicating “prostitute”) increased more than the number of visitors in other demographics increased, which the article doesn’t say anything about.

I had a Thai Tinder match that wouldn’t go out for dinner, only wanted me to go to a sketchy massage place to meet her. So, I guessed it was this and didn’t meet…

But I knew Thai people who would come here because it was relatively cheap for them, so some will be legit tourists

Also, some prospective masters students come here to have a look before they make a choice. I’ve personally met one of those

Before, they had to get married or be runaways. The problem remains unchanged at its heart.

That averages out to be over 400 Thai women under 40 per day

Good thing crime, rape, extortion, bribery, corruption etc isn’t rampant in taiwan!

Many are just working normal jobs though. We shouldn’t jump to conclusions.

I’m not convinced they are here for normal jobs

And not forced into the sex trade

Honestly this line of thinking seems kind of racist. Are all the Vietnamese, Indonesians, and Filipinas here working as whores, or just Thais? The vast majority are working in factories and housemaids.

These women are not coming here to work.

Any evidence for that? I see no concrete facts in this thread, only conjecture based on visitor statistics.

Well, they are coming visa free which means they have no work rights. I am talking about the Thais. So your comparison with the other groups who work in factories/maids you mentioned doesnt work. They are coming on different visas.

The Thais in question are coming as tourists.

I do agree that it is kind of funny that they allowed visa free entry to increase tourism. When it went up, they say it must be sex trafficking.

Well, speaking from my personal view I think that the Thai women coming in visa free raises suspicions as to how long they’re staying when they come and what kind of itinerary they have when they are here do they join tours? Is there evidence that they travel around the island and spend their time traveling and doing touristy things or is there some sort of behavior that is seen as nefarious

For me, I don’t think it’s because they are thai and therefore they should be looked at suspiciously, but rather that they are coming as tourist and whereas the Filipinos and the Indonesians are here to legally work and not just as tourist and they are registered blue-collar workers and we do have a lot of evidence that a lot of Indonesians and Philippines are employed as maids and as caretakers so I think that is pretty much substantiated now if Indonesian and Filipino girls are coming in Visa free I would think that there might be the same kind of doubt cast upon them. The fact is that if young girls are coming in with other young girls and not accompanied by family members of the other sex and they’re just young girls coming in for like a two week stay then There should be some sort of evidence that there’s travel there are visits to touristy spots or things like that but if they just came and stayed two weeks in say Taipei and then left and they did that again and again the same people then suspicion could be cast upon whichever group that did that because it would lend itself to suspicion

Thailand has a lot of young sex workers and so does the Philippines I’m not so sure about Indonesia

But the Pinays and Indonesian girls are not coming in in large numbers visa free
