kim from river has been a good friend for some 5-6 years. while admitting it is no “bar heaven” (where is that?) just wondering what kinds of things irk you about her place. maybe I can pass some suggestions on to her, next trip through town. she does care about her customers and friends, and would probably be interested to know.
all said, haven’t been there but once or twice in the last year - no time/desire to booze until dawn on a regular basis before sunday soccer.
My problem is with a large selection of the customers.
No question, Mark has one of the most amazing LP collections you’ll see anywhere.
Mark stills runs the Soundgarden, but it isn’t open on a nightly basis. If you want to have a party among friends (such as the last time smerf graced us with his presence) and listen to some great tunes, then this is the place for you. Mark is a family man now, and gets his music kicks by doing DJ work at some of the various Chungli pubs, including River. His bar is casual and when open is a great place to hang out and spend the evening requesting your favorite music. However when he moved, nobody could find his new place even with maps, hence my hesitation to provide directions here. If you are really interested in checking out Soundgarden, send me a PM and I’ll find out what nights he’s open.

I’ve known Kim a long time too…I went with her to pick the pool table some 8 years ago for her first place. I’ll drag Mr. He’s ass down there one night and see if we can change his opinion.
And finally to Mr. He…
If you’ve never seen anyone get drunk and pass out on a pool table before, then your previous pub crawling experience must have been very sheltered indeed. I don’t mind someone passing out on the table, as long as they don’t puke on the felt. Just roll them off on the floor and line up your next shot. The number of fights in River can be counted on one hand since they’ve opened, so I think your experience could only be described as “unusual”. I’m sorry you had this happen to you on your first visit, it’s actually a very homey place once you get to know the people there.
To find City Music, head down Nankan Road (away from highway and Taoyuan) past Evergreen and our place …you will see bar on your left. Not the same street as 95, 1 parallel street over closer to Evergreen.
I’ve been living in Nankan for a while and never made it to Zhongli yet, always ended up in Taipei. But we’re heading there this weekend so can anyone give me a couple of addresses of decent places to go?
I’ll take any suggestions as long as there will be people there, beer and a music selection better than '95.
The river? I’ve also heard there is a good bar on Da Tung road but i can’t remember the name of it, any ideas?
