I finally made it back

Just as the title of the thread says, I have finally made it back to Taiwan.

I have fought, striven, complained, hoped, and wished to finally be back in Taiwan. It was a thought that I had almost literally everyday that I spent when I was in Shanghai (although there were a few periods of very enjoyable times in Shanghai). In the other thread I wrote down my impressions and experiences in Shanghai and how I spent my life there.

In the end I am very happy to be here in Taiwan. To conclude my two year stay in China, I think it’s a great country in many ways, but it can also be very tiring. You need to be very patient and understanding and just have a very high tolerance level to the way people behave. This goes for everything including people on the subway, restaurants, company culture, government restrictions which involve much more than Facebook and Youtube, and even the creeping inflation.

My feelings that i have finally arrived in Taiwan are not that much of excitement which I thought it would be, or regret for deciding to come back to Taiwan which some people suggested it might be. Instead I just feel very at ease and relaxed, and quite frankly a little bit bored. The night markets are great, the people are as awesome as ever, and my room is all right. I’m still trying to adjust again to the more laid-back life of Taiwan relative to Shanghai and meeting new friends and what not.

The thing that I like so far about this experience is that I just feel so comfortable and at ease, I don’t have angry feelings or never do I feel any sort of desire to complain. Everything just feels so… right. It’s nice too that for once my mind isn’t always looking for an excuse to think of Taiwan, for once I can finally enjoy the present instead of constantly thinking about the past (my past trips to TW) and the future (when I would arrive to Taiwan).

I also want to add one thing and I hope this is not something that people find offensive or judgmental.

This site used to be a lot more positive regarding life in Taiwan. But lately this website has begun to resemble angry Korean English teachers. I understand that we can all have rough times here in Taiwan and things can be a hassle.

I do hope that if you are having a rough time and you want to just argue that this country is no good, then by all means go ahead. But before you do so, please remember how many nice things this place has whether it be guabao’s, nightmarkets, cheap comic books, Taiwanese people or some nice spots to just sit around and enjoy a Pineapple Taiwan beer.

Pineapple Taiwan beer? We have that?

Yeah it’s pretty fantastic but not super common.

Mango beer, too. Both quite easy to find (canned or bottled) in supermarkets and convenience stores. Smell better than they taste, IMHO.

Pineapple Taiwan beer tastes “fantastic”!?! You’re having a laugh. It tastes like

Oh, sorry…

It’s yummy :lick:

Is “striven” a real word? :ponder:

Welcome back rapidpie! Two years doesnt seem like a long time to me but it seems to have been a long time for you. The site always had lots of moany people, but it used to be balanced with more humor and interesting threads too.

Welcome back but sorry to say Taiwan has become a complete shithole since you left.

Since he left ?

Past perfect tense of strive is "have strived, " it’s an irregular example, and I would also have written “sriven” before I thought about it, but what the point in the pedantism?

Practice with me, “Welcome home, Rabidpie. It’s nice to have you back. By the way, beware of trolls.”

Jeepers! Only four grammatical errors in that post! Is someone proof-reading for you? :bravo:

Oh, you’re SUCH an entertaining delight!

Welcome back, Rabidpie!

There are those who seem to think so.

Welcome back. I didnt like living in China either.

Jimi I aspire to reach your level of pristine English skills that I as a mere commoner cannot match.

Except yes, “striven” is indeed a word.
