I Love Bob Dylan

Has the venue for his concert in Taiwan been fixed ?

And whoā€™s going to stand in line to buy tickets for everybody?

I think itā€™s actually down in Kaoshiung?!

kaohsiung? Iā€™ll go. I dreamed the other night that his band all got sick so he asked the Muddy Basin Ramblers to back him. it was a stupendous night, except that our frontman insisted on doing his Bob Dylan voice on all his spots (at which heā€™s adept, incidentally), which raised the eyebrows of his esteemed Bobness, but it was all good. Itā€™s a memory Iā€™ll cherish forever.

Masters of War. He actually sang this last time I saw him. Valid now just as much as it was when he first performed it in the 60ā€™s. Timeless.

Come you masters of war
You that build all the guns
You that build the death planes
You that build the big bombs
You that hide behind walls
You that hide behind desks
I just want you to know
I can see through your masks

You that never done nothinā€™
But build to destroy
You play with my world
Like itā€™s your little toy
You put a gun in my hand
And you hide from my eyes
And you turn and run farther
When the fast bullets fly

Like Judas of old
You lie and deceive
A world war can be won
You want me to believe
But I see through your eyes
And I see through your brain
Like I see through the water
That runs down my drain

You fasten the triggers
For the others to fire
Then you set back and watch
When the death count gets higher
You hide in your mansion
As young peopleā€™s blood
Flows out of their bodies
And is buried in the mud

Youā€™ve thrown the worst fear
That can ever be hurled
Fear to bring children
Into the world
For threatening my baby
Unborn and unnamed
You ainā€™t worth the blood
That runs in your veins

How much do I know
To talk out of turn
You might say that Iā€™m young
You might say Iā€™m unlearned
But thereā€™s one thing I know
Though Iā€™m younger than you
Even Jesus would never
Forgive what you do

Let me ask you one question
Is your money that good
Will it buy you forgiveness
Do you think that it could
I think you will find
When your death takes its toll
All the money you made
Will never buy back your soul

And I hope that you die
And your deathā€™ll come soon
I will follow your casket
In the pale afternoon
And Iā€™ll watch while youā€™re lowered
Down to your deathbed
And Iā€™ll stand oā€™er your grave
'Til Iā€™m sure that youā€™re dead

My knowledge of his music starts getting shaky around 1970, but a while back I visited that site that has all his lyrics, and some of his later stuff looks interesting lyrically, so maybe Iā€™ll check it out.

Itā€™s a trip, though, he just kept on, just kept on going.

Anyway, here are three from among my favorites.

ā€œCopper Kettleā€:

ā€œSpanish Is the Loving Tongueā€:

ā€œCorrina, Corrinaā€ (this oneā€™s a little different from the version on The Freewheelinā€™ Bob Dylan, couldnā€™t find the original one from that album):

So doctor, how was the concert ? Oh, you did not go ā€¦?

Neither did Bob. Just another bullshit rumour, of course. :unamused:

What a great song. Of course everyone has played it for almost a hundred years.

I like Leo Kottkeā€™s version (better than Dylan  )

Hereā€™s Robt Plant singing it

This oldie from Ray Peterson is pretty hilarious

Yeah, it is a pity. He was in Japan and Korea though.
It seems he also wonā€™t play in Hongkong on the 8th of April.

Let me be the first to say happy birthday Bob.

Iā€™ve seen Bob twice in the last year. His new show is absolutely spectacular. Heā€™s reworked everything as usual, and he croons some real old jazz club tunes. If yer a fan, go.

He wonā€™t be around forever, and as someone who was hesitant to see him at his age after seeing heading towards the light BB King and withering away Rodriguez and being majorly disappointed by both of them, I can testify that this version of Bob is worth it.

Heā€™s in Taipei too.

That would be cheaper then.

This upcoming Scorcese movie looks interesting. There are some great photos in this article:
