I love this town

I was on the bus the other day, stopped at a busy intersection, and I saw this pretty standard-looking
skinny foreigner dude crossing the street holding hands with an extremely well turned out local guy. :Like impressively well turned out.
Nice to know us straight guys ain’t the only ones punching way out of our weight class here.

I always find gay couples who show their affection openly in Taiwan to be very courageous. It’s not like this is Canada, people are not that gay-friendly here.

Well lesbians have been chewing the faces off each other for decades, it’s not Saudi either.

You know it is, but at the same time it ain’t, if that makes any sense.
I’d say on one level it’s actually more chill, since Confucianism pretty much invented DADT and local folks’ gaydar tends to be pretty much non-existent (or they just don’t want to know).
Bustin Justin is cute and all, but I know plenty of places in Canada where those two guys would be literally risking their lives behaving like that in public.
But yeah, as far as widespread intellectual and spiritual acceptance of their identities, it’s much more of an uphill struggle here.
As well, this is the heart of Taipei we’re talkin about, I could see it being different in downtown Hualien or something.

^Well I saw a gay couple holding hands in Chiayi just a few days I go. I was like boy do these two get balls. Most of the people there were well above 50. They probably all pretended to not have seen anything.

This:

Local guys tend to be pretty touchy with each other anyways

Once you are well above fifty, you’ve probably seen, and known, so many gay couples that you don’t give a flying fuck.

In Europe, America, Canada etc., maybe, but in Taiwan, no.
