I need info and advice-pelase help

My girlfriend has to move back to Tapei and I want to move back with her. I plan to stay at least for at least one year, possibly two.

I have never lived/worked in another country before so any advice and info will be greatly apreciated.

I’m an American from Dallas TX and have a valid passport. I have a Bachelor of Science degree in general studies with a core focus in advertising.

I have over 5 years of freelance and agency experience.
I have also had work doing voiceovers for television and radio commercials.

I’m willing to do almost anything to get to Tapei, so I don’t necessarily need a job in one of those fields.

I guess I’m just now coming to terms with selling nearly everything I own and I’m feeling quite overwhelmed. To be honest I don’t really even know where to start. Please help.
Thank you.

You should do some reading in the Living in Taiwan forum. There are some detailed discussions. Once you’ve waded through those, you may have some more specific questions. I’d also suggest picking up a copy of the Lonely Planet’s Taiwan guide (coauthored by a moderator from this site!) and getting documentation of two years of work experience in your field. Letters on company stationary should do the trick. You will need to be able to document two years of work experience if you decide you want to work in marketing/advertising. There are many opportunities in these areas in Taipei especially in IT sector although salaries and benefits will be far below US levels.

Here are some threads that you might find interesting.

You should post your questions to Living in Taiwan, and please do not cross-post to multiple forums.

For a start, contact with one of the thousand English schools and teach English. That at least would give you a year ARC (if you hire with a leagal school) and you can check the szene while you are here.

You also can check the job section on Forumosa to get something going. For English, you might also want to check www.taipeitimes.com
