I need to create audio files

Can anyone recommend good software (preferably software that is free or inexpensive) that will allow me to create audio files. I need to record my voice and attach the audio files to e-mails.
Any help would be appreciated!

Audacity.

If you are just recording your voice and thats it, what about the standard wave recorder that comes with windows? If you are using windows that is.

The builtin wave recorder is just amazingly bad.

Another vote for Audacity, which is excellent.

I’ve done a couple school plays with audacity. I’m a lugnut luddite when it comes to that stuff and I ended up doing a good job so Audacity gets my vote as well. Does it work with Wondows as well?

Thanks! I downloaded Audacity and it works really well. I am sending a voice Christmas message to my family members back in the States.

Thanks again.

Glad it’s working well for you, Browny.

Occasionally I am given “English to Chinese” translation jobs that are rush items. The people needing the translation items (which may in some cases only be four or five paragraphs) have Chinese typing ability, and some modest level of English ability. So, if I could record my oral translation into a file, post that file on the internet, and then enable them to listen to it, … they would be satisfied. (I have a website to which I can FTP files … )

I have a headset (with microphone) here on my computer, and am using VISTA (which is an operating system developed by a small software company in Redmond, Washington). So how can I accomplish such a task?

Is there some fairly inexpensive way to do this?

(Excuse my ignorance, but the only things I have done with my headset so far are listen to some music videos on YouTube. Other than that, I am clueless … )

Hi Richard,
I’ve merged your post into this previous thread.

how about some basic mp3 player? most of them also do voice recording (saved as wav or even better directly as mp3). “creative” players are particularly good at that… it’s a no hassle portable solution

I use this one (free trial version). It’s very user freindly.
You just need a mcriphone.
