I need to put something up on my tiled kitchen wall

Our kitchen wall is tiled. The real glossy, white tiles typical of Taiwanese interior decorating. I want to put this wooden hanging piece up to hang my apron, but we can only drill into the grout, not the tiles. I don’t want to drill into the grout because the height is off. I’ve used sticky tack and double-sided foam tape and neither work. The wooden piece weighs about a pound, and with the apron it won’t weigh much at all.

What is a super strong substance to keep this wooden piece up on the kitchen wall??

Are you not allowed to drill into the tiles?

If you are, the right drill bit and masking tape placed on the tile will do it nicely.

forget drilling…if you go to B&Q there is some very strong adhesive hooks, they are very strong. Only get the 3M brand. Stronger than the double sided tape. They also make some very good baskets for bathroom toiletry. Again, very strong and very resistent to condensation and mold.

I’ve never found any adhesives to work well and permanently on tile in this humid clime. Consider drilling into the grout to attach a base form, such as a decorative piece of wood, to which your wooden hanging piece and other items can be attached at whatever height you want.

We always used those ordinary plastic hooks that come with the little nails in them – four nails per hook, with no real nailheads.

The trick is to look at them carefully. They come with the nails in two arrangements: square and diamond. If you buy the diamond ones (the ones with nails in a diamond-shaped arrangement within the round portion that holds the hook on the wall) you can tap them into the grout at the corners where four tiles meet. They hold very well and they’re super-cheap. I never had a landlord say a word – but then we always lived in “ordinary” apartments, not anything specially decorated or particularly nice. If your landlord is picky that might be a problem as I imagine they would be very difficult to get out again without damaging the grout (though you could fill any holes with toothpaste or real grout.)
