I’ve heard rumours before, but last night I saw a enws report about the conditions in Taiwan’s ice factories.
Now I love mango ice, shua bing, and all the other ice desseerts, but I’m going to be thinking twice about eating them again. Basically the report said that all the ice in Taiwan is made from tap water, and handled in disgusting unsanitary conditions (cut up by rusty implements on the concrete floor that people walk on, often right next to the road etc).
Not just ice desserts though. What about the ice in your drinks?
The world is indeed a disgusting place. Did you know that when you smell something it means that molecules of that substance have actually entered your nostrils. This is why gasses tend to smell more than liquids and liquids more than solids. It is perhaps better not to think about these things too much unless there is something you can do about it such as open the window or hold the ice…
In Japan the really rich like to feed a young girl nothing but blue berries for a week or so before sitting around a big mirror topped diner table and having the girl come out a lay a little blueberry turd out on top of it for their dining pleasure.
You just made that up Bob, didn’t you! You’re trying to start an urban legend! But I have to say, it’s a jolly colourful and imaginative one.
As for the ice, I never have and never will consume so much as a flake of the stuff at any restaurant, stall or other establishment anywhere in Taiwan.
No Omni I know for a fact it is absolutely true because I heard it somewhere. You could do a google search - “Japanese Blueberry Turd Delight” or something perhaps.
