And you have to let M$ check to see if you have a “Genuine Copy” of Windows before you can use it.
BLOW ME MICROSOFT! :raspberry: :fume:
Time to upgrade
…and to worry about the first security problem…
Btw: Those beautiful “designed for IE 6.0” sites may not work properly in IE7, MS already asked everyone to “re-design” their sites for the new browser. Had they simply used standard-compliant code, they wouldn’t need to “design” their pages for a special browser and wouldn’t need to “re-design” when a new version of a browser shows up.
Even better, Firefox 2.0 is available now. Drop that IE like a bad habit.
why? i know nothing… why do so many people rave about firefox? I’ve never had any issues with IE.
I was first hooked on Firefox when I discovered tabbed browsing. Totally changed the way I use the net. Of course, IE7 has that now too. It has a search box that can utilize virtually any search engine. You can use different “themes,” or skins. There are all kinds of extensions, or plug ins. Can monitor your mp3 program, display the weather, can be customized anyway that you like. Also, but maybe the gap has closed now, it is reputed to be much more secure than IE.
To quote a German ad: Don’t ask, try.
Sure? Surely you didn’t see, hear, feel or smell someone closing in on your computer and doing strange things to/with it. But that doesn’t mean your IE/Windows is fine. Just yesterday a student complained to us (computer centre) that she is being blocked every day (traffic quota exceeded), although she neither downloads anything nor plays computer games. Simple: Her computer is infected and either distributing lots of spam mail or joining dDoS attacks…
Wierd.
I’m using Firefox 1.5.0.7 but when I check for updates, it says I have the latest version.
Not really: They have yet to put 2.0 into the update queue. It seems they want to ease load on the update servers by letting a number of people make direct downloads first. Just wait a few more days and it should show up.
Yeah, I just did a direct DL.
It seems some of the old plug-ins aren’t compatible with the new version.
The colored tabs were one.
But it’s cool that FF checks to see if there are new compatible versions of the updates.
I see this has automatic spellcheck as well.
Features like “Tabbed Browsing” are really standard by now… I can not imagine surfing without tabs… Even MS realized that by now…
E.g. if you do a search on Google or Ebay… You just Middle-Click on the results that seem interesting… These pages load in tabs while I still browse through the result page… Then I just switch to the tabs to check them and can always easily go back to my main tab for going to the second page of the result set…
But another point for Firefox is the high degree of customization… Through countless extensions provided by the community you can tune your browser the way you want it… e.g. Adding local time of your home-country (foxclocks) or current weather conditions (Forecastfox) to you status bar.
And most Important: Adblock Plus! The best extension for FF ever… Surfing without having to see all these annoying ads is so much more relaxing… And also websites load much faster as all the ads dont have to be downloaded…
Cheers,
Mr. Rice
Got the IE7 since a few days running on our company network as test.
BIG BUG inside still. The security options can not be saved and each time I want to go on the WWW, I have to “set security setings” at a higher point. SUCKS.

So we can assume you have a priated version?
My system upgraded itself to IE7 flawlessly.
IE7 runs very smoothly. But as with every system you need to get used to how it works.
I’ve never liked using firefox. But personal preferences are always an influence.

Mine are saved fine. Perhaps you have your own problem elsewhere.
my windows is OEM… and when we tried upgrading with the service packs, it turned around and told us it was a copy… the missus called microsoft and after a lot of bantering and bickering from microsoft’s side, they finally registered it as ours… quite annoying actually.
as for tabbed browsing… what’s so different from using the tabs in the menu bar at the bottom of windows? i can’t imagine many differences except that your tabs will be in a different spot from tabs for any other programs…

Correcto. Our Intranet in thecompany is not compliant (yet) with IE7… in fact I was not allowed to install it already
IE7 makes fonts inside IE and Outlook blurry on my system. :fume:
I thought there was an option called “true type” which gives a certain shadow on the texts (included taskbars etc).
Sorry, can not find it anymore where to change, but it might this little rascal
who causes you problems…

Thanks, I found it based on your comment. It’s under Tools\Internet Options\Advanced\Multimedia\
The first option is called ‘Always use ClearType for HTML’ - after unticking the check box the fonts are now sharp. Seems ‘ClearType’ does exactly the opposite of what the name says.
