IF prepay sim not working

My second phone is an IF prepay by Far East Tone. Today the message came up “Sim card rejected”

Other people I know have had the same thing happen and the rumour is that FET are trying to reduce foreigners using IF cards. (I have no idea why that would be the case as they are prepay sims, so it’s not like ppl can run up a huge bill and not pay it)

Anyone know about this?

Yes, basically the same thing happened to me a few months ago. Fortunately, www.TaiwanCell.net had just gotten set up to provide phones to us horrible waiguoren. I suggest you hit their site and get a phone from them.

I don’t know about the rumor of if it’s true or not. I had a bit of a stalker/unwanted caller problem a few months ago. I use IF, so I went to the local shop to have my number changed. What a drama! Since the last time I bought a prepaid card, 3 years ago, the law has changed and you are now allowed to have only one cellphone number.

I had to jump through all sorts of hoops to get my 1st number disconnected and the 2nd one activated. The whole process took about a week. The supervisor-type person that I spoke to, said that the"ran checks on passport and ARC numbers." The they check to see that there is only one phone number linked to your passport/ARC number.

I’m jumping to conclusions here, but that might be what happened to you. Alternatively, your sim card might just be faulty.

Good luck!

You didn’t warn us this site is NSFW!! I just opened it at work and, low and behold, there are pics of a naked woman all across the top. Luckily my ultra-Christian boss had stepped away from the office. Otherwise I would be pretty pissed right now.

If your Christian boss saw it, tell him you didnt know it was porn and clicked on it. Im sure he will understand that you didn’t intentionally watch porn. Of course thats if he’s not one of those so-called christians that is ultra intolerant and unforgiving (not something Christ would do)

Why would a cellphone rental company be “not safe for work”?? :loco:

Why is there a hot naked woman dancing in front of a screen on this website? not that I’m complaining, but why?

To increase sales?

Truant, it’s also possible that your SIM card is just dirty or something. Spill beer on it last Saturday by any chance? Or maybe on Tuesday? Anyway, take it out, give it a good hard rub and stick it back in (of course I’m talking about your SIM card). If it’s still buggered, try it in another phone. If that fails, then by all means go to Far East One.

I guess they asked you to send some information about who you are, ARC#, passport number, address etc …

I got that message about 3 months ago and neglected it … than a month or so passed and someone from IF called me up and started talking in Chinese which I don’t master, suddenly an english voice came on and asked me if I am a foreigner … I replied by asking them if I sounded like a Taiwanese, they said sorry and hung up … nothing happened after that, can still call and be called …

My guess is that they are trying to find out which cards are used for criminal activities, or to find out if it’s still the original owner of that number

Many years ago I already gave them my personal information, than about two years ago I misplaced my card and on arriving at the airport I went to the IF helpdesk and asked the girl there if it would be possible to get a new card with the same #, no problem … within 10 minutes I had a new IF card with the same phone# … she had to input some personal details in her laptop to find out if I owned that number tho … some time after that I found the old card and tried it … nope didn’t work anymore, they did cancel that chip# in their system …

Call them up and ask what is going on

Thanks Mr. Pie, that makes the most sense. I guess I got some SMS, but as it was all in chinese I would have deleted it.

To avoid confusion, in my previuos post with ‘card’ I mean SIM, the small detachable piece with the chip on it.

Ok, I took a look. I have no bloody idea why he put that there. It wasn’t there when I got my SIM from him. Blame Loretta or whoever is doing his website design. Or maybe it’s an ad banner and he didn’t specify that they couldn’t be pornographic when he signed up for the clickthrough service. Or maybe he got hacked.
