Apparently the people who run this site don’t know the first thing about how to properly admin phpBB, possibly the easiest forum engine ever. I mentioned that friggin google+ and facebook like crap making the page jump around and GAVE THE CODE TO FIX IT and nobody has done it. They can’t get their https crap straight. It randomly tells me I entered the wrong username/pw when it is stored in the keypass settings and is the same every time. Random db overload errors, db query errors, etc. Now my browser keeps warning me on every page about insecure content.
The youtube embed code…why does it left align? text-align: center and/or margin:auto DONE!!! This is ridiculous that nobody will fix these minor things. It’s extremely unprofessional and looks like crap. Just pay someone to do it if you don’t know how.
For all the crap everyone throws at Tealit on here, I don’t see how this site is any better design/code-wise. Nice 485 errors on your home page. I really like your use of tables for everything with those beautiful align=“center” tags.
I refuse to pay for Tapatalk because you guys are too lazy to properly code a mobile version of the site. It takes 3 hours max to do properly when using a base theme from phpBB.
This site is also very ugly to look at. Redesign plz.
This is a forum site, not an enterprise intranet or banking website that requires some complex system only geniuses can manage. It’s phpBB!!!
Using this site actually makes me angry because the user experience is so terrible.

where did you post it and when? I never saw anything like that.
there’s no way everything can be completely https on this site as there’s a lot of external content (avatar images, random photos, external ads, etc),
I think you should just disable that annoying behaviour of your browser. If you turn off showing images its probably fine.
There’s no mandatory requirement that a site must have ALL https content either. Its just the ideal of the company that did your browser.
If you get a db query error or overload errors please post here how to reproduce it.
You could make a GreaseMonkey script and format it any way you like. I doubt many people care about this. Personally I prefer left alignment as the text isn’t centered either.
what is error 485?
Forumosa doesn’t get money from Tapatalk.
Matter of taste. I think it matches the “beauty” of Taiwan well
You should stop using it then unless you like being angry.
I can deal with people saying stupid crap, but I can’t deal with people being stupid.
485 errors is not “a 485 error” it is “485 errors in the code”.
I don’t care if Forumosa makes money or not from Tapatalk. I still don’t want to pay for it because someone is lazy and just wants to install a tapatalk extension and call it a day.
The page jumps because of the link for google+. The button loads an arbitrary size for itself then after it loads the button graphic it readjusts its size, so the page “clicks” after the button loads. I told them to just set a size for the element holding the button so it won’t “click” anymore and gave them the code months ago. forumosa.com/taiwan/viewtopi … 0&t=107883
My job is web and app design…of course I don’t use Internet Explorer (except for when I have to test).
As far as reproducing the db errors…the point is that they are random and frequent. Can’t really recreate it.
I should not have to use a greasemonkey script or lower my browser security settings because nobody knows how to design or code properly.
The youtube box I’m talking about is the one that has the forumosa thing around it. Why isn’t this centered?
engerim, stop making stupid excuses and just admit the site has problems that can easily be fixed.

Works fine for me. The page never jumps around.
YouTube is always center aligned when I’m looking at it.
The only thing I’d like to report is having since yesterday on the lates IE version also the " insecure content" warning.
Bugger. Each page asks me if I want to go non - secure.
Any advice gents?
Is this video centered in the box for you or to the left? Chrome and Safari, on the left.
chrome, and centered
I also get the jump at page load, but it takes, like a second, so I ignore it. Would prefer it wasn’t there.
I’m also getting a bar at top saying this page/site has insecure content. Load anyway?/Don’t load (recommended)? That’s new for the site-a week or so, and I never have it elsewhere.
Why get so hot and bothered, it’s only a website. Good on you for suggesting improvements, though. :bravo:
Who clicks ads? :loco: Alternatively: there are ads? Where? I never noticed…
Jimi, not everyone has a choice about what browser they’re on. I’m not allowed to install a different browser on my work computer, where I have the most time free to use this site. (I’m in an editing position where sometimes I’m waiting for work to come to me, and the internet is a good gap-filler.)

DB, I’m assuming that the majority of complaints don’t come from workplace issues.
Anyway, whatever soviet you work for that won’t allow you to amend your browser selection is a bit crap, imo.

Chrome centered.
Ok, I figured it out. My flashblock extension is ignoring the incorrect html styling rules which people stopped using in 1998, which are INLINE ON A TABLE FOR SOME REASON. Time for another fix!!
DONE! That should be right. Even people that aren’t technically savvy can see my way (the correct way for people that have moved past the year 1998) is just cleaner.
Also, most videos are 16x9 now so change that resolution to match.
Put a centering div around it just to be safe.
Lower the amount of data being transmitted by just using css to draw the box, border, and background while only transmitting the png for the logo. It will load WAY faster, not to mention store the logo in cache instead of pulling that whole image every single time because it’s in the html styling instead of css where it belongs.
…and back to my original point. I shouldn’t have to be self-diagnosing problems!! You’re welcome forumosa! Where can I send an invoice? I wonder how much server costs could be saved if these pages were properly formatted?
Whilst Mike seems a little angry over it, he is actually right. The biggest problem of note is the HTTPS, because the content can be viewed with HTTP, but you need HTTPS to log in and post comments it causes problems for browsers security settings. I’m not sure if someone has recently fixed the youtube frame (why is it even there?) it seems ok in Safari and Chrome. Mike is a developer so he will test sites on all platforms and multiple browsers. I would take his word for it. He wouldn’t use IE as his own browser.
Mike could do himself some favours and not be so defensive and berate poor code. Whilst to some good coding is important, to others it’s the look (my job) and others still it’s ‘how do we make this a success?’
Anyway it’s Sunday, I’m off to watch Antiques Roadshow, oh wait I live in Taiwan…

I understand a lot of people don’t have the technical knowledge I have. I’m not an asshole like that…but remember a few months ago all that server fiasco and how the site was slow all the time. Perhaps all that could have been avoided if the code was just corrected.
Here’s a good example.
You have a 6 lane highway but the road is bumpy so there’s traffic all the time, all day long. What’s a better idea? Build 4 more lanes on the highway and continue to use the same method and just have a 10 lane highway with bumpy roads, or redo the 6 lane highway? Sure, the 10 lane highway will alleviate traffic, but it isn’t increasing efficiency of what’s already there.
Back to a server example, if you were to just throw money at a more powerful server, yes, it will push your crappy code out faster. However, if the code is more streamlined, the browser doesn’t necessarily need to reference that code and re-download elements as well as constantly draw unnecessary elements. It’s just bad business sense.
I just looked at the main navigation menu and it’s all coded in javascript…anchor links and css please! The difference is that each and every link needs to be rendered with javascript. Actually they aren’t even links. They are “definition” elements with a javascript click action… What should be there is a list with an anchor link and css hover elements. What will happen then is that each link will load one rule that applies to all links instead of processing identical javascript on each one.
I always use the validation sites: jigsaw.w3.org/css-validator/
and validator.w3.org/
for my stuff, but I just do really simple things.
I know how mike029 feels, I can’t use the site at work.

Well, shouldn’t you be working instead of surfing? No wonder foreigners get such a bad rep around here.
