Importing TV from Thailand

Before I go on, I will say I found this thread >> Is it worth to export LED HD Television from UK to Taiwan? >> but wondered if things were now updated.

This TV > tkec.com.tw/pt.aspx?cid=1131 … pid=114689

I can get it for just 34,000NT here!! (I’m in Bangkok now).

I guess I have 2 questions:

  1. Does anyone know if the cable tuning system is the same in Thailand and Taiwan?
  2. If I bring this over on the plane, am I going to get hit with customs tax (tourist visa) and if so, how high is it likely to be?

And any other issues I might have?

thank you!

Also consider voltage (220 in Thailand vs 110 in Taiwan)

I believe it’s auto switching (I’ll check on the back at the store)

And the GF has said I can just get one of these >> tw.page.bid.yahoo.com/tw/auction … 2302891815 >> if the tuner isn’t compatible.

So I think we’re good to go, apart from the issue of importing it in? Worst case tax is likely to be how much??

About 10% import duty + 5% VAT … if declared … else probably fine added.

Thank you sir - looks like that is still a great saving.

KLM charge $75 (US) to take it on the plane, I need to confirm if that is insured or not - I’ll call them tomorrow

Even if it’s not switching (just about all computer stuff is nowadays) you can just run wires from your air conditioner outlet to power your TV.

Having a little read online, will bringing it in count as my personal effects? (I’ll also be brining in my old clothes, books etc from my Thai house) - or would I be pushing it too much to go through the green channel?

Ok - import tax confirmed at 10% - customs.gov.tw/RateWebEn/Sea … e=20110825

Not sure about VAT rate - it seems it might be different if you send something rather than take it on a plane (I’m checking about freight companies too) - you need to pay both personal and business VAT rates if you send it. But cannot find the documents to narrow this down at all… (nor the rates)

Import tax is only payable if you declare it. You would be totally amazed at the crap that people bring in without declaring.

Thailand= PAL , TAiwan = NTSC any problems?

this makes me remember in Bangkok airport a group of 8 indian people trying to check-in each person a 42 inch flat screen sony TV at the counter of Thai Airways …they were fighting on whether it is possible or not to check them in …

OK, but when they catch you … a fine will be added equal too the local invoice price plus taxes … I guess

You can bring new electronics and other stuff up to a specified amount without declaring it …

VAT in Taiwan is 5% for any product …

Lol - latest drama now is it won’t fit in a Bangkok taxi!!! Need to drop down to the 40" to get it in the side doors!!

And will in fit in the plane? Not afraid it will break?
