Insurances in Taiwan

We were just talking about insurances and the kind of insurances we should take here in Taiwan.
Does anybody recommend any insurance company here in Taiwan?
-fire-insurance?
-theft-insurance?
-life-insurance?
-natural disasters-insurance?
-accidents-insurance?
-health/disease-insurance?

Any feedback would be much appreciated.

Some info in this [url=http://tw.forumosa.com/t/home-contents-insurance/2948/1 There are also loads of different threads on private health insurance. Do a search or scan the topics in the Health/Health Insurance/Living in Taiwan/Where can I find… forums

I have never had insurance beyond the legal minimum, eg car insurance. In the ten years since I left my own country my lotal losses due to theft, accident, disasters etc have been substantially less than the premiums I would have paid if I wanted to waste my money on insurance.

Insurance make money out of you. Getting them to pay out is always tough, even though they raise your premiums after a claim to make their money back. You will almost always pay more to them than they will pay out to you, so why do it?

The only kind of insurance you may need is where the potential loss is more than you can bear, like if you drive into a new Mercedes - or if someone drives into yours. But if you can afford the loss you can afford the negligible risk and save yourself the expense.

Of course, this attitude is at odds with the advice given by Lonely Planet, but they’re a bunch of wankers.
