There’s another thread about this somewhere. Perhaps the relevantmods could merge?
I have two questions:
If I go as an ‘industry insider’ do I pay the entrance fee or is that just for Joe Public? Or is that the fee for the industry bods, and the public can’t go at all?
Does anyone who went know if it’s worth going, if all I want to check out is books about Taiwan, especially history, that aren’t available at Caves/Eslite etc ?

The public pays; those in the industry don’t. But I don’t think it’s just a matter of saying at the gate, “I work in publishing. Please let me in for free.” (I’ve been every year that I’ve been in Taiwan and never paid, but I’ve always acquired passes in advance.)
The pattern has been that the public was not admitted for the first few days. But the newspapers are making it sound like the whole show’s open to everyone already, so maybe things are different this year.
New titles will be showcased. You can talk with publishers about what’s happening. I can’t image missing the show. But I’m the sort of person who would go even if there weren’t a single title there about Taiwan or in English.
I was thinking of using my old ‘English Consultant’ company namecard, saying I was looking for distribution contracts for educational books. I was too late to apply for advanced registration. I’ll give it a go anyway.

What are the dates for this thing? March or April?
:?
It’s Book Expo time again. The exhibition is on now, until Sunday at the World Trade Centre on Xinyi Road. I’ll be on booth A-325 most of the time, doing something rather fruitless on behalf ot the Youth Hostels Association. I’ll probably be bored stiff, so why not drop round and cheer me up?

Trade days for professional visitors:
February 15 10 am - 6 pm
February 16 10 am - 1 pm
Too bad you’ve missed the time for free entry this time. You’ll have to buy a ticket.
There are quite a lot of Taiwan history books, reproductions of old maps etc. on display.
Today (Sunday) is the last day of the Taibei International Book Exibition. It ends at 8 pm and exhibitors are not supposed to close their stands before that time. May I point out that the venue - the World Trade Centre, is barely more than a stone’s throw away from the Tavern, where the Forumosa happy hour is taking place. So why not go to the book show and then proceed to the happy hour, or the other way around, given that the happy hour is actually 7 hours starting at 3 pm?
I will still be there on stand A-325. You are welcome to drop by and pick up a free bilingual guide to hostels in Taiwan, with or without the accompanying VCD, also bilingual.
's mother is currently staying at the Youth Hostel Association’s premises. She will be there on Sunday helping run the stall and at the same time telling people about her missing son. If you are going to the book show, please come round and talk to her. Who could take her from the book show to the happy hour? I will be all tied up at the exhibition.
