Lopia is a large Japanese supermarket chain. Only a few in Taiwan so far.
In Taiwan it’s mostly all Japanese products and the deli with fresh prepared products is really good. It’s worth a visit just to get something from the deli and to check out the huge variety of Japanese products.
I visited the one in Taoyuan and it’s small but still worth a visit. Also in Taichung.
There’s one opening in Kaohsiung Arena Hanshin department store… It’s replacing Mia C’Bon (formerly JASON supermarket)… Will be open sometime in June I guess…
Randomly stumbled upon this store this weekend. Really impressed with my first visit. I don’t know if something special was going on, but I feel like I got pretty good prices on meat. I tend to not buy beef or pork much because at Costco the upfront cost is too high and I don’t have infinite freezer space and smaller grocery stores are quite expensive. I got 600g of steak for ~250nt, 240g of 黑毛 wagyu for 250nt (double discounted from around 1000nt), 400g of ground beef for 130nt, and ~600g of sliced pork for 150nt. All appear to be reasonable quality and nice portion sizes for planning meals for the next two weeks. Felt weird to buy groceries at a place that has the same feeling as Jason’s, which I never shop at because of how overpriced most things are.
There is also pizza (??) that tasted decent, especially for 150nt.
This is near my place but I’ve never heard of it. I’m guessing it replaced the Nitori that used to be in that little mall. Looks like I’ll have to check it out. I wonder if they carry the ridiculously expensive imported Japanese fruit like Jason’s/Mia c’bon.
Maybe I could combine a visit to that quite hellish area (the roar of vehicles around there must be heard to be believed) with a visit to a pizzeria@Mataiou had helpfully recommended some time ago.
