IP addresses

Would it be possible to add a script to the forum to show posters IP addresses and browsers? It would be interesting and should not in any way violate anyone’s privacy. Example:

travelforum.org/bali/main.html

No good. One, it gives any hacker a lead on who is online and how to find them. Two, I can hide my IP or use a proxy, perhaps even use dynamic IP. Three, ASDL and DSL IP addresses change all the time.

It is an invasion of privacy and I am damn sure I wouldn’t post anywhere that does this. Moderators and admin can see the IP’s, only they need to know

Why would it be interesting? To you maybe! Would anyone else find it interesting?

Remember all the bruhaha with the eyeball thingy ? I think some people will consider it an invasion of privacy, from someone’s IP you can sometimes find their home address, and that definately is an invasion of privacy. It could be open to abuse if it was visible to all. Moderators can see IP’s but only for certain posts, and they are not visible by default, we need to go pressing buttons to see IP’s. It’s something I rarely do, and only with troublemakers who come to my attention, checking for aliases mainly. I couldn’t give a monkey’s what your IP is otherwise.
Stats about browsers might be interesting, I think gus can get percentages from the server.

Yeah. That’s right. Whatever happened to that eyeball thing? I kind of liked it.

It’s still here at the bottom of my sig. If you want to see your IP it is right there.

Wait… damn it, we’re not talking about the same thing are we. I remember now when you could see who was online and what they were looking at. Yeah, that was scary.

Actually, you still can…

:smiling_imp:

The evil eye was a way of seeing how many times someone had checked a thread, but you can still see where people are looking on forumosa.com, just not how often they are looking there. I kinda miss it, but I’m a freak about stats.
