iPhone 4 jailbreak, here we go!!! jailbreakme.com/ Many thanks @comex and @iphone_dev
Jailbreak works like a dream on my 3GS running 4.0… easy to install straight off your iphone, no need for a PC to jailbreak it. Take care with Cydia as some apps that worked on 3.1.3 don’t work on 4.0… it isn’t a big deal… springboard will tell you that it is in “safe mode” and then you just go back to Cydia and uninstall the app you just tried…
Their jailbreak worked smoothly on my 4.0.1 iphone 4, now just waiting on their ultrasn0w update. For those that need to check compatibility of cydia apps and iOS 4.0+, I recommend checking: https://spreadsheets.google.com/lv?key=tz1lkTAAwtDi_7HJxef0Vgg&f=true&gid=1
thanks for the link, mate… it is greatly appreciated!!
Worked great, super easy. Point browser to there, slide to jailbreak and done. comex and crew really did a great user experience on this. The use case is so simplified, I suspect this will make the percentage of people jailbreaking more than before.
4.0.1 on an MC 3GS this time around.
The new MyWi 4 has a setting to tone down the transmit power to save battery if you don’t need range. The default is 80% power, and I am typing this now on my iPad from a 30% power wireless tether with the iPhone nearby. Haven’t used enough to see the power savings, but this seems promising.

I guess the next thing we will see a lot of is people going to their local Chunghwa or Taiwan mobile shops and jailbreaking the display model iphones and installing cydia on them
I’ve read that some users lost the ability to send or receive text messages and facetime after jailbreaking. Just back up your settings and data first in case. That way you can restore and try the jailbreak again if all else fails.

True!
You can take it one step further… Install Categories and put all the icons into the same category. This will leave the phone with an irreversible blank springboard.
Not that I would recommend doing such a thing!

i guess you could just install “Poof” and hide all the apps also giving me ideas RobinTaiwan!! and i do need to walk past the TW Mobile at main station this afternoon…
Ultrasn0w 1.0-1 is out, which means its iOS4 /iPhone 4 compatible for those that have carrier locked models. Visit your local Cydia repo for install.

I just ran into this earlier today. I brought my already jailbroken/unlocked US iphone 4 and signed up with Chunghwa’s emome service. The SIM card I was given was a standard sized sim and being fully aware of the need to turn it into a micro sim, I asked around at a few local computer/phone places. The usual reply was that they didn’t sell any such items or I was told they were too expensive at nearly NT$1000 and up. One vendor told me that one place’s central store was willing to punch my card for NT$200.
I know they can be had for around $15.00USD to $30.00USD on ebay, from people in Hong Kong and/or China, but it dawned on me too late to have one sent to me, before I came out to Taiwan.
I ended up googling for microsim template, which can be printed out to help in manually cutting up/down to size. I basically took a pair of scissors and followed the guide to trimming the sim down. It worked fine and I didn’t need to spend any real money on a cutter.
I don’t think you can buy a microsim yet in Taiwan because neither the iPad 3G or the iPhone 4 have officially been released. I’d imagine shortly after the releases you can probably get one direct from the cell providers.
will this void the warranty?
Technically yes. In practice, probably not. You could always unjailbreak the phone before getting any warranty work done. If the phone is busted enough that you can’t even do that, it probably won’t matter what you have running on it.
BTW, MyWi + My3G combo = awesome.

brilliant thanks… didn’t know you could ‘unjailbreak’ it lol…
are the iphone 3gs cheaper to buy offline here or back in UK? anybody know?
The 3gs is still current here and it’s obselete in the UK. Easy math.
Guys, don’t update to 4.0.2 unless you want your jailbreak to stop working. If you have your blobs saved you can go back, but new iPhone 4s might already have the update on them.
BTW, best price I could find here for iPhone4 is 33k nt. In HK, they are 8k HKD (about the same) right now and 5k HKD in a few weeks when the official places get them in stock again.
