Just for your information - I was curious how much more the new generation cost
compare to the “old” 5.
With Taiwan Mobile, with a new 2 year contract (unlimited data)
under the “401” tariff
the 5c 16GB costs 200 NT$ more than the “5 16GB”
the 5c 32GB costs 800 NT$ less than the “5 32GB”
the 5s 16/32/64 GB all cost 3.200 NT$ more than those “5 models”
under the “699” tariff
the 5c 16GB costs 300 NT$ less than the “5 16GB”
the 5c 32GB costs 1.800 NT$ less than the “5 32GB”
the 5s 16GB costs 2.700 NT$ more than the “5 16GB”
the 5s 32/64 GB both cost 2.200 NT$ more than those “5 models”
other “tariffs” are difficult to compare because their price/offer models
are not the same anymore.
Keep in mind, that for the “old 5” the unlimited data was max 699 NT$/monthly -
now the new iphones don’t have that privilege anymore, so like all other highend
smartphones their unlimited data is now 789 NT$/monthly.
That is 2.160 NT$ extra for a 2 year package - I included this in above comparison.
(I calculated with 2.200 …)
Final words:
The already expensive iphones are even more expensive (well, not a big surprise, right?).
Double memory is (on almost every model) +4.000 (so more the “Euro” than the “US$” scheme)
Even the “c” is crap, it seems that their 32GB model strikes out price wise compare to
the previous model.
I have no idea about CHT, but I heard they have slightly better deals for those
interested and network independent users.
Just my 2 cents
PS
Feel welcome to correct me if I have done “wrong” the math here …
a. The off-contract price of $350 USD is more expensive than the on contract price of $200 USD for other high end smart phones (Is the Nexus 5 cheaper on contract?)
b. Early reviews suggest that the 8 MP camera on the Nexus 5 isn’t as good as the cameras found on other competing high end smart phones.
So the Nexus 5 is a good deal if you’re looking for an off contract phone. Not as good a deal if you’re getting it on contract.

I don’t know about contract prices. I bought my HTC one without a contract (the contract I had was for my Samsung S3, which was stolen a month and a half after I got it).
Regarding cameras: If you really, really want to make great photos, You’ll carry a SLR camera. For casual photos, and for uploading them to Facebook, it’s more than enough. Hell, my HTC One has a 4 megapixel (Ultrapixel) camera that works perfectly for me. Unless you have a 4K monitor, if you want to see the images in a Full HD screen, 8MP is overkill.

Not quite. I have a 2 year old son, so there’s no time to grab an SLR (which we have) for the action shots. The quality of the camera is not the number of megapixels but how well it does action shots and how well it performs under low lighting.
I have a 5s and my wife has a Nexus 4 - there’s no comparison between the two. The 5s is way faster to take your first shot, and unless the lighting is perfect (outdoors in full sunlight) the lighting is much better as well.
