iPhone: Far EasTone vs Chungwha

So the iPhone is now officially carried in Taiwan by both Chungwha Telecom and Far EasTone.
What is Far Eastone bringing to the table? Are they offering better rates? More free stuff? Lower prices? It would be nice to see a good old fashioned price war go on here.

Taiwan Mobile started selling it today as well.

I guess Chungwha doesn’t have exclusivity rights anymore.
So do you know if any one is better than the others?

Well, from what my GF said, she’s paying less with Chungwha than what Taiwan Mobile is charging. Dunno about Far EasTone, as they don’t start selling it until tomorrow.

Big gathering of people and press outside the Xinyi Taiwan Mobile store earlier tonight.

Someone on www.mobile01.com has posted an extensive cost analysis that compares the cost of ownership over 2 years with the three different carriers and it still seems like CHT is the cheapest among them all.

However if you have more friends on FET or Taiwan Mobile and do want an iPhone you might be in luck.

Otherwise, if you’re thinking about getting an iPhone and have yet to pick a carrier, CHT offers better value.

Warning: all Chinese, but you can look at the figures and get an idea.

Also other interesting things noted at the end of that thread:

  1. If you want an iPhone 3G 8GB, it’s cheaper to go with CHT @ $1349/mo over CHT @ $1049/mo
  2. If you want an iPhone 3GS 16GB, it’s cheaper to go with CHT @ $1349/mo over CHT @ $1049/mo
  3. If you want an iPhone 3GS 32GB, it’s cheaper to go with CHT @ $1349/mo over CHT @ $1049/mo
  4. If you want the CHT $1749/mo plan, the iPhone 3GS 16GB is the same price as the 3G 8GB
  5. If you want the CHT $2549/mo plan, the iPhone 3GS 32GB is the same price as the other two models
