I am going to sign a contract with Chunghua and I need to decide which one of these to get. I want to have a good camera along with my phone as well as fast internet. The HTC as a 5 megapixel camera compared to 3.2 on the Iphone. Other then this, I dont know much about the HTC. My Taiwanese friends say that it is great. Does anyone have experience with either of these that might be helpful? Hope I dont lose it in the first week 
Which HTC phone are we talking about? The Hero? Then it’s not too bad and if you get a data contract alongside with a voice contract then you can have it for zilch.

Don’t bother comparing the phone camera resolutions: the actual picture quality will vary wildly and most likely you’re just comparing a crappy image from another slightly less crappy image.
Instead, compare the relative merits of the platforms that the phones run (iPhone, Android, Windows Mobile). Perhaps there are some killer apps on one that aren’t on another. Or maybe you just absolutely love iTunes. Or maybe you prefer the open nature of Android (and want stuff like multitasking, better GMail, GMaps, etc).
If you’re going for the iPhone, just jump in now. If you’re going for Android, wait maybe a month. Some new HTC products are coming out soon.
I agree with what jashsu says. The iPhone is an established platform with tons of apps available now. The Android is an up and comer. There will be better phones coming (very soon) and lots of apps developed for it. It will more than likely rival if not exceed the iPhone in terms of market share and apps available over the next year or two.
I suggest playing with both models in store and seeing which one you’re most comfortable with. It also helps if you have a friend who has either model who can show you what they like about it and what apps they have downloaded.
Thanks for the replies. The Hero is the one I’m talking about. I kinda thought both were going to be crappy pics. I like the Nokia 97 camera phone but chunghua doesnt offer it and the other companies seem much more spendy (Taiwan Dagada). I need a a semi-decent camera to get on with. Looks like its gonna be tougher then I thought.

You can get the N97 mini for NT$11,990 on the 383 talk plan plus mPro 950 (unlimited data service).
Does CHT have a good promotion with HTC? Because as far as I can tell they don’t and the iPhone 3G promotion has a really good plan. If you insist on getting the HTC I suggest that you sign up for the iPhone package and sell the iPhone to somebody who wants it and use the proceeds to buy the HTC.

My 850 unlimited dataplan comes with a built-in 383 talkplan. Is this not the case for the mPro 950?
I never really understood what the difference between mPro 950 and plain 850 is. Is it just the added hosted Exchange support?
I got the new HTC HD2, it’s great phone, technically better than iphone in every way, but it doesn’t have as much apps.
It’s also running Windows Mobile :raspberry:

Interesting, I don’t quite get their plans either, it’s really all quite confusing, but I guess if you get the mPro stuff you can pretty much get free phones with the right combination, not sure if the normal deals allow for that.
I plans are extremely confusing. I have been to Chunghua 5 times this week. Everytime they present me with new twists to their plans. I had decided on the Iphone cause I was under the assumption the deal was for the 32gb because thats what their ads showed. Later I was told that they made a mistake, and that the 32 cost more money.
Do you think selling the Ipod would really work? I want a decent camera and from what I can gather the HTC hero is much better than the Iphone in this department. Anybody have a different opinion?
Um… if you’re so concerned with getting a decent camera, I don’t understand why you’re not getting, well, a camera? Cell phone cameras have come a long way, and as you can see in other threads people can take great photos with them, but they’re still just cell phone cameras - you have very little control over exposure, there’s no flash, there’s no zoom, no wide angle. I doubt 3 vs 5 megapixels makes much of a difference for a cell phone camera anyway - a 3 megapixel photo can blow up to A4 size, and how often are you going to do that with a cell phone photo?
But if the camera’s your main concern, then you’ll also want to consider the apps. There are tons of iPhone apps for playing with and processing photos - a recent New York Times column profiled a bunch, I think. (Something somewhere in this Tech forum talks about it.) I don’t know if the HTC has similar software available.
FWIW: taking photos with my iPhone is sort of annoying for me: needing to push the button in the middle of the screen makes holding the camera steady quite difficult. (Yes, I know there’s an app for that.)
If you work in the Apple system, then the iPhone syncs well with iPhoto. I don’t know what it’s like in the Windows world.

The Nokia N86 already has wide angle Carls Zeiss lenses, 8 mega pixels with a proper zoom and shutter. A few phone cameras out there have a built in xenon flash, too, such has the Sony Ericsson C905 and the new SE Satio. The Satio boasts a 12 mega pixels camera. These phones are camera-centric, though, so they do not offer as many other goodies as the IPhone or the newer HTC models offer.
I agree with what you’re saying anyhow. From 3 to 5 mega pixels, the difference is not significant enough to make the camera on these models a deciding point.
Oh, how interesting. And all this time I thought that promo plan was an iPhone exclusive. Then it really depends on if you have severed your ties (or never had any) with the iTunes store.
Don’t be fooled into thinking more megapixels is better. Cramming more onto the same size sensor can increase the noise and decrease the image quality.

lukeduke: If you are a user of Google products (in particular GMail, Talk, Maps, and Google Voice) then going with Android is a no brainer. The Android implementations of those four services are light-years ahead of iPhone. One significant reason is iPhone’s lack of multitasking. You can sort of get around that on iPhone by using Google Sync (the exchange-based service) but then you lose GMail’s threaded conversations and labels.
OTOH if you want seamless sync to iTunes (pretty sure iTunes can handle USB Mass Storage, but not as elegantly) or a deep library of games, then the iPhone is the go-to device.
u should wait til late in first quarter 2010…lots of new phones coming in january.
