Iran Elections 2016

Big gains for the moderates, sweeping all of Tehran, and wresting control of the Asembly of Experts from the hard-liners, even though they tried to do everything to ban liberals and moderates from running.Though as pointed out, urban areas are grossly underrepresented, and when that happens in most places it’s usually a victory for conservatives.

The good thing about the Assembly is they pick the succesor to Khamenei, who is 76 and in poor health, when he finally totters off to Hell. The bad thing is “moderate” is comparative, and they will still have a lot of hard-liners in the clergy to deal with, not to mention the Revolutionary Guards.

Certainly a step in the right direction.
