TEHRAN (IRNA) – An Iranian parliamentarian on Monday warned the Dutch government over possible screening of an anti-Islam film.

Alaeddin Borujerdi, the Majlis National Security and Foreign Policy Committee Chairman, told IRNA that if the film is screened in the Netherlands, it will trigger extensive repercussions from Muslims throughout the globe.

MP Geert Wilders, the head of the far-right Freedom Party, announced in November that he planned to release a 10-minute film this month which is blasphemous to Islam’s holy book, the Qoran.

Borujerdi said the Iranian people are sensitive toward desecration of the Islamic sanctities and that the Muslim world will not tolerate any kind of insult to Islam.

““We expect the Dutch government to prevent screening of such a film. Otherwise, the Majlis MPs will call on the Iranian government to review its relations with Holland,”” he reiterated.

Wilders, whose party has nine of the parliament’s 150 seats, is exercising extraordinary presence in the Dutch politics with his increasingly harsh comments about Islam.

The Hague fears a repeat of the 2005 riots worldwide when Muslims protested cartoons printed in a Danish newspaper that blasphemed Prophet Mohammad (PBUH).

My opinion: it’s a ten minute movie? How is a government supposed to stop it? Do they even have a grip on the way the modern world works?

OK, so the MP Geert Wilders is a fascist nut, but so are the Iranians and they demand their right to say what they want… so why can’t they see that what’s good for the goose (Islamic fundamentalism) should also be good for the gander (anybody opposed to them)?

Is “fascist” actually still an insult?

I do remember it once meant something like ‘terrible people with a penchant for gulags and world wars’. But that was long ago. Hasn’t it morphed over the years to ‘anybody who points out the world outside Europe/the US isn’t far from perfect either’, losing all punch once included in the original meaning?
