Care to provide some more context here?

Sorry, I have no context to provide. We were discussing the question with regards to Israel, and someone kept bringing this up.

Israel is the only non-apartheid state in the Middle East. In stark contrast, countries like Iran, Iraq, and others in the region routinely marginalize ethnic or religious groups, denying them equal rights and political participation, making Israel unique in upholding democratic and equal principles in a region often marked by oppression.

I can assume there are two million of Arab citizens in Israel, about 20% of population, who have the same rights as the rest of Jewish population, have all the rights and political representation in the parliament. All the street signs in Israel are in three languages: English, Hebrew, and Arabic. Iraq has Kurdistan, definitely an oppressed minority, who were gassed by chemical weapons by Saddam, but managed to create their own functional actual state when things went bonkers in the beginning of 2000-s in Iraq. Iran definitely suppresses a huge Turkic population of about 10 million of Azerbaijanis is the North-West of the country. Forbidding them to speak their languageā€¦ Middle East is a very fucked up region, but somehow everyone in the world is focused on Israel, who just fights for its existenceā€¦

Is the Republic of China an apartheid state? (not including Revolver)

Donā€™t assume and actually find out if they have equal rights.

Of course not. Youā€™re allowed to live here as a PR and have all the privileges (except for voting) that citizens have.

So now youā€™re suggesting that we canā€™t assume Israel treats its Arab citizens fairly, yet earlier you confidently assumed Australia counts its population by race and not citizenship? You clearly donā€™t understand the difference between race-based policies and actual data collection, or how Australia, unlike the U.S., funds education based on merit and need, not identity politics or ā€œlegacy.ā€

Maybe apartheid isnā€™t the correct term for keeping five million stateless human beings penned up in ghettoes in the land of their birth but itā€™s close.

settler-colonialism

How do you ā€œsettleā€ a land which already has millions of people and centuries-old cities, towns, and villages?

Britannica Dictionary definition of SETTLER

[count]

: a person who goes to live in a new place where usually there are few or no people

  • The town was established by British settlers [=colonists] in 1769.

If you keep repeating the same thing enough times without providing any counterarguments, itā€™ll eventually become true. Keep going.

You make some good points. A bit off-topic, but itā€™s a shame people have carried over that toxic trend from Facebook of using ā€˜laughing reactionsā€™ to mock those they disagree with here. Such a petty, passive-aggressive way to register oneā€™s disagreement about an issue.

Hmm. Any country that is noticeably ā€œmulti-ethnicā€ inevitably slides into apartheid unless those cultures are compatible. it just happens organically because each subculture prefers its own company. No rules are necessary to make it happen.

I am not an expert in Middle East, just like to enjoy my falafel with a humus dip and some beer  But why in 1947-1948 when UN proposed Jewish and Arab state, Arabs refused and lost the war. When Gaza was a part of Egypt and West Bank a part of Jordan until 1967, no one complained about self-determination of ā€œPalestinian stateā€? But refugees were kept there with a special refugee heredatory status, a son of refugee is also a refugee. In 1967 they lost the war. In 1973 they lost another war. Egypt and Jordan eventually acknowledged Israel in 1979. In 1992 and 1994 Oslo agreements were signed with a peace plan, who fucked it up? Israel? Israel withdrew forces from Gaza and forcefully dragged out their Jewish settlers in 2004. In around 2006 Hamas islamist fanatics came to power, threw out PLO colleagues from the roofs and started to throw rockets to Israel. With all the billions sent by UN during the last two decades, they built thousands of kilometers of tunnels and fired thousands of rockets to Israel. On 7 October 2023 Hamas basically breached on the territory of Israel, killed, raped, burned babies in ovens as I have heard? Or maybe you are more informed, and gentle guys from Hamas did not mean it? What Israel was supposed to do? Suck it up and dismantle itself? They responded as everyone should respond in such situation, and particularly in the Middle Eastā€¦ They responded with war, with Hamas cowards hiding behind women and children, and the entire UN etc. shouting about ā€œatrocitiesā€. Same with Hezbollah, they are bitches of ayatollahs Shia islamist regime who also occupied Iran, and occupied Lebanon, turned once prosperous country into a shithole. I assume the only solution to the peace in the Middle East is to leave Israel alone, acknowledge its existence like Egypt, Jordan, UAE already done. Saudis were also on the way to sign peace treaty with Israel, but Hamas idiots fucked it upā€¦ There were celebrations by the way in Lebanon, Syria on the death of Nasrallah, sane Arabs across the Middle East are also fed up with this islamist bullshitā€¦

You heard wrong. They didnā€™t burn babies in ovens. Haaretz tallied one dead baby (Mia Cohen?) and she died in the crossfire. Those stories were fabricated either for political reasons or from trauma-induced imagination.

There is credible eyewitness testimony of rape (although the two stories featured by the NYT article have been debunked) on October 7th, but no video or forensic evidence as of yet. There was no mass rape ordered from top-down.

We do have video of Israelis gang-raping a Palestinian hostage to death.

Youā€™re in dire need of more than one source.

About 84 of the Israelis who died on October 7th were killed by the IDF itself under the Hannibal directive.

Druze and Bedouin are 100% loyal to Israel. Other Arabs are also more or less loyal, better have social securities and live peaceful lifeā€¦

Letā€™s stay on topic. Is Iraq an apartheid state?
