They really want to talk to the manager
That day is nigh. The junta is almost finished.
Do you envision a Karen homeland and the breakup of Siam? Or just the same old cycle—an elected government, a military coup, rinse wash repeat. ![]()

Nah.
Several people will pull out in front of you on every trip you make.
Especially for cars who look down at scooters and feel its their right to pull out on you.
Buses will straight up actively try to murder you if you get stuck besides one.
If you ride in the outer lane you will have to constantly be on the look out of parked cars, trucks, vans, dick heads who will open their door into the road without looking.
Taxis will drive slow and unpredictably while scanning for passengers.
You have to constantly be on the look out for pedestrians who cross when they feel like it.
Cars and scooters both will ride up your ass because they haven’t got the slightest bit of common sense about keeping a safe distance.
I mean you get used to it but its always going to be a risky activity.
Life is a risky activity. I’ve only lost one friend to a scooter accident and he was five times over the legal limit.
Thought experiment. Take the motorcycle scene from Mission Impossible - Rogue Nation, which I believe is also used by the government here for official rider training in Taiwan. Now multiply that scene by 1 million. 1 million Taiwan Tom Cruise wannabes on the roads, do you believe that is safe and something you would like to partake in?
The ministry of transportation changed how the statistics for traffic deaths are accounted for in 2015 to make it look safer than it is. Prior to this traffic deaths in Taiwan were about 7x worse than US and Japan. After changing how statistics are taken on some years Taiwan is supposedly safer than US. They basically changed the stats so that only deaths within 24 hrs of the accident are technically a traffic death, after 24 hrs the death is counted as something else. If you see any charts after 2015 of traffic deaths around the world you’ll notice Taiwan is the only country who has a small asterisk around it and you’d have to read the tiny link far below to understand how they count deaths differently than everyone else. In Taiwan its now C1 and C2…C1 being death within 24 hrs and that is the stat that is used to compare against other countries. I posted the article here years ago but can’t find it right now.
Depends where you are. You can get anywhere in Taitung City by bicycle- flat, small, tropical- but as soon as you get out of the city to where the good stuff is (mountains, coast, beaches) you need a scooter or motorcycle ). You could drive a car I guess, but I like the feel of the wind in my hair and bugs in my teeth.
Yup pretty dam safe , and will make your trip far more interesting , you can get to many places that public transport just doesn’t go.
