Is it 戶籍騰本 or 戶籍謄本?

I think on reddit I saw the term 戶籍騰本 and learned it that way, but now I’m strongly thinking that it should be written 戶籍謄本, based on the meaning of the characters. However, strangely, both terms do seem to be used, even on Taiwanese government websites.

My guess: 戶籍謄本 is correct, but 戶籍騰本 is a common alternate (or mistaken) way of writing it.

What say you?

While we’re on this topic, what’s the difference between a 戶籍謄本 and a 戶口名簿?

Yea, it should be 戶籍謄本。i guess the actual “teng” is rare enough that 騰 became a common alternative to it.

I only know that only one 戶口名簿 is issued to each family unit. If they update it, the old one has to be invalidated before a new one is issued. It’s like a certified current copy of the family register that can be used for official purposes as an alternative to the 戶籍謄本 which is a copy issued to you for use for whatever purposes but does not guarantee its contents are current for more than a certain period of time.

The correct character is actually 𦫀 or rather 𦫁, but people decided to stick with the version we have now, and I guess it still isn’t simple enough.

You’re right! 戶籍謄本 is the correct way of writing it. Even the official website of the HHR (戶政事務所) lists it as 戶籍本.

On this topic, do you know if there is any way for an NWOHR to apply online to get a copy of the 戶籍謄本 for a NWHR parent? I’m thinking it is impossible because, in my current understanding, first the NWOHR must show up in person at the 戶政事務所 with supporting documents to prove the relationship, before the HHR office is willing to provide the 戶籍謄本. But I’d love to be proven wrong. I did seem to find some page to apply for a 戶籍謄本 online, but that seemed to be for the case of applying for your own 戶籍謄本 where you are already registered, instead of my case where I am not yet registered but want to get my deceased parent’s 戶籍謄本 as part of the NWOHR passport application process. It seems like I have to make a trip to Taiwan to get the 戶籍謄本 in this case.

If you have any one of your parent’s Citizen Digital Certificate (自然人憑證) along with a card reader, you can apply for their 戶籍謄本 online at the above webpage that I provided.

You can apply for the 戶籍謄本 for any Citizen as long as you have their 自然人憑證,身分證字號,密碼 and a card reader.

So I take it you don’t have your parent’s 自然人憑證 then? In that case, I’m pretty sure you must make a trip to your 戶政事務所 in person and apply for the 戶籍謄本。
