I am a combat veteran and some nights i need it for ptsd. I brought a prescription from home but recently ran out. It looks like there is xanax and ativan here but i am not sure if klonipin is. i would like to know if anyone knows if it is available here. if yes, then what should i do to get a prescription, i dont want to go through the process of getting it from home as that would be a hassle and take too long. If no, i would like to know what to do to get a prescription for something similar. I’ve only been here for 3 months and haven’t seen a doctor so i don’t know how to go about doing this. I do not have NHI yet.
Yes, clonazepam is widely used here, mostly for treating epilepsy and anxiety, but the brand ‘Klonopin’ is only used in America. In most countries the brand used is Rivotril (made by Roche, as is Klonopin in the States). If you see a doctor and mention that you were being prescribed clonazepam, you shouldn’t have a problem getting a prescription. Doctors here are generally quite willing to prescribe benzodiazepines.
You don’t need to see a psychiatrist to get a prescription for it, a general or ‘family’ doctor can prescribe it for you. Let them know what dosage you are used to - they come in 0.5mg and 2mg tablets. I’ve been prescribed them by several docs over the years. Good luck!
Thanks for your help. no tonly didi get a prescription for rivotril, the doctor gave me 4 times as much as i was prescribed in the states. now i feel kind of stupid for worrying if could get my meds

The US Army developed some very effective CBT-based methods for PTSD treatment and I’m surprised you weren’t offered them (I’m assuming “home” is the US). Meds may keep your symptoms under control, but being dependent on them is no way to live. It is possible to get over this and get your life back again - look into it. Good luck.
Finley: i tried the CBT but found it difficult to buy into it. im one of those i can get over myself kind of guys. as much as i hate taking these zombie meds now i believe its the best course of treatment for me at the moment.
Thanks for the resources but at this point life is easiest for me with klonopin and thats all i really ask for.

Fair enough, but do give it another chance if/when you feel ready. You may just have got a bad therapist - I’ve observed some of the training videos and frankly some of the therapists are a bit too far up their own asses; basically, they haven’t understood what they’re supposed to be doing. One therapist actually spent a couple of minutes telling the client he was boring. WTF? Anyway, hope it works out one way or another.
Finley:
i hear you on the bad therapists. one told me my experiences weren’t traumatic enough to warrant his help and he had more “important” patients to see.
klonopin(rivotril) definitely makes life better for me and my philosophy is there is nothing wrong with a chemical solution but i am actively searching for a counselor/therapist/psychiatrist(not drug giver but one that actually listens) to see if i can improve my psychological life, I just find it very difficult to open up to a stranger or a girlfriend or best friend so that is difficult form me.
There is no reason why there must be only one answer to a problem;chemical and counseling can both be effective medical tools either alone or in conjunction.
Thank you for your concern, we are all in this world together and lets help each other make the best of it.
Pray to whatever deity you believe in that no one will have to go through what we did again.
It is much easier to get a hold of klonipin in Thailand I remember.
All of the benzodiazepines are interchangable for each other. I would stay aware of the ativan side effects like brain damage, addiction, and overdose. I would not want to get addicted to any of the benzodiazepines.
