Is pickleball a thing in Taiwan?

Hi!

Random question, haha, I’m moving to Taipei soon and wanted to know if people play pickleball there! I know it’s a big hit in the States right now, but I’m not sure if it’s reached Asia yet.

If not, are there a lot of tennis courts in Taipei? And are they hard to book/expensive? I’m currently living in NYC and it’s impossible to get a court without waiting hours and paying horrendous prices. :frowning:

Thank you!

Why would anyone leave such a beautiful city that also has pickleball? I don’t see it as a win at all.

lol can’t tell if sarcasm or…? but definitely doesn’t answer my question!

Yes, but it’s not clear how many courts. Here are a few resources:

I sometimes play at Huazhong Riverside Park. They have two courts

Some public sports centers have pickleball courts, rackets, balls available. Reservations recommended

For example

Taipei Xinyi Sports Center 臺北市信義運動中心

Cool. I don’t see it mentioned on their website tho, just badminton and squash.

Sorry, the group you’re looking for doesn’t exist

Last Saturday, I spotted a pickleball court on the rooftop of Shin Kong Mitsukoshi Xinyi A11, but it was closed due to the rain

for reference these are the prices of court rental:

I was invited by friends to play it there and try it out. 300ntd per hour. The video makes sense, seems kind of posh with well to do types.

Not as good as badminton in the park for 0ntd but still pretty fun.

I’m in a LINE group for pickleball group that meets at Zhishan Park, but I never go there because it’s very far from my house. I’ve recently discovered that there is pickleball being played all over the place at different sections of the Taipei Riverside parks (give that a Google if you’ve never heard of it).

Can confirm that pickleball is also being played next to the badminton courts at Youth Park but I don’t really know if those guys are part of a LINE group or what.

You’ll definitely find it here, it’s growing rapidly. Maybe try translating between English and Chinese doing some Google searches, I’m sure you find a lot.

I just realised the riverside court where i used to play badminton was changed into a pickleball court. Not really happy about that, it was a good spot.

Huazhong?

They put in like 8 new courts at New Taipei Metro Park, but there aren’t trees or anything nearby to block wind, and it’s so strong there that you basically can’t even play.

I don’t know of any other courts along the riverside that have nets

Youth Park I hear is usually busy, and it’s people who take pickleball really seriously?

North Pingdong city. GuangSheng road. There is a park with 3 courts which are free to use.

This was taken at an awesome set of courts (6 total) in SanChong. Worth the trip for the awesome riverside park alone. Here’s the Google Map link:

Can see pics there via that link too

That’s the ones I was complaining about. Too much wind to play
