Is the American Club in Taipei or Beijing?

I was invited to the American Club in Taipei over the weekend to join friends for dinner.
The plaques on either side of the well-guarded entrance read:
“American Club in China”. HUH??? Am I missing something? Do the Americans know something we don’t?
Nevertheless, the dinner was superb.

Lucky you, not everybody gets invited to the “for the rich only” exclusive American club in China. Just a matter of sifting the real expats from the … euh … :s
