Is the USA a direct democracy? (split from Prop8)

Federal offices that are open to elections are rarely direct democracies.

Local offices are usually direct democracy to the point you have to your primary residency in small district to run or vote in them. But in a sense you’re also robbing US citizens that are non-residents of a district who might frequent that area their democratic voice. So only direct democracy for some but not for all is the how the US operates.
