Is there a character for a check(√)

I thought there was symbol for a check some where in the windows characer set for a check? This symbol (√) is the square root symbol and it looks awful in the document I’m working on. I’m actually looking for a check or a symbol that shows an already checked box.

Change the font to Wingdings 2 and type the capital P.

Thanks, That will do nicely for PDF files. I just found that capital R gives you the completed check box.
