Is there a right way to direct attention to a post?

Hi,

The case that I’m wondering about is that where a post could easily be suitable for two separate forums. I just added a post to an old thread about the importance of a Chinese name. I used that thread because I searched and found something related, and so wanted to do my part to have tidy housekeeping. However, that old thread was in “Culture and History”.

Had I started a new thread, I would have put it in “Learning Chinese” because the most language expertise seems to lurk there.

So, my question: Is there an acceptable way to direct attention FROM the “Learning Chinese” forum over to that thread in Culture and History, without cross-posting?

Thanks,

I run into this problem more and more, too. I’ll have a post that seems to be related to two forums, but I am not sure where it will get most exposure. I’d like to post it in BOTH forums.

Sometimes, I’d like to post it in one forum, and then “Move” it to the other forum. This way, there is a “Shadow link” connecting the regular visitors of the first forum to my post.

But unless you have at least moderator priviledges, you cannot do this. I suppose you could PM the relevant moderators and ask them to Move/Shadow link the post. Has anyone tried this?

Not quite related, but also a question for me: where do you post messages about Translations? I’ve been using the Learning Chinese forum for this, but this seems funny. I recall this now because I recently posted a message asking for help about translating some health information – and for a moment, I thought about cross posting it in the Health forum

We have a strong policy against double posting, but I’ve double posted before a few times, on occasions when something really fits into two forums (eg, what are good English words to use to teach Chinese things like ‘hongbao’ and ‘zhongzi’ - I posted in Teaching English and Learning Chinese).

Where double posting becomes a problem is when you get two simultaneous discussions of the same topic with a lot of repitition in two threads.

Maybe it would be best to post a new topic in one forum, and leave a message with a link in the other forum saying something like “I have made this post in the XXX Forum which is relevant to this forum. Click here to link” or something.
