Is there more to Taiwan than a short term visit?

TomHill, who is possibly trolling as he loathed living in Taiwan and left years ago, would disagree with me that where you live is irrelevent to a certain extent, but then again he still has a bourgeois fixation with leisure and travel, so you can’t really trust his opinion.
My only fixation is weed.

A good job. Good money. Great food. Business opportunities. A unique culture and friendly people. The hustle-bustle of urban Taipei. A whole island that is so topographically different, it has taken me 4 years to explore and I’m still finding new places all the time. It’s a great hub for the rest of Asia. Living is cheap, so you can save a lot of money. Taiwan is a beautiful place to live.

Sorry, I was going to comment on this post, but I fell over…

The humidity in Taipei almost stops my knees from seizing up.In colder climes, I’d be crippled, which normally I’d love, but my missus aint no nurse.

This had me laughing my ass off. Mostly because it’s so true.

Bless you. You made my day.
Here I live in a 3 bedroom apartment in a gated apartment block with a swimming pool and gym. Something goes wrong in my apartment, I phone security and it gets sorted. My trash gets taken away by someone else. In England all I could afford was a crappy one bed ex local authority flat.

Here I can afford to raise a family with my wife not working, if she so chooses. In England this was impossible.

Here I can go to a local Taiwanese restaurant and buy a big beer for just over a pound. In England how much is a pint nowadays? At least three quid I’d guess, even in the provincial towns.

Here I can start a business paying a reasonable level of tax with minimum govt. interference.

I’m an economic migrant.
I’m in exile…

Better an Arschloch than a Schlampe

I think Taiwan’s “Quality of Life/ Cost” relation is one of the best in the world.

From someone living outside of Taiwan, this place is a retirement paradise.

All you need is a house (which is expensive) then the rest is cheap and good.
