Is this a good place to warn about a school?

I saw an ad for my former school looking for native speaking teachers. I was wondering if posting something of a warning about teaching there was in line or not. Basically while I was there I saw or found out that in about one semester almost the foreign staff was changed three or four times. I just want to make sure this is the right board and that I won’t get angry posts. Thanks.

I’m not sure if this is a good place for that and you might find that many people will simply blame you for whatever the problme was. As for me, I have been applying to schools left, right, and centre recently and would really appreciate any info you can offer.
Please PM me.

I think this is a great place to discuss schools. The good and the bad. I do suggest that you state very clearly your experiences.

Post it here.

Yup, post it here.

Is it Yu Tsai Elementary School in Yungho?

Many of the bad places do not advertise here. If they advertise on Tealit but not here it is often because they do not want former/present employees to start a discussion. As for posting comment here, the expected standards of employer behaviour drop in proportion to a the length of your stay in Taiwan. People who have been here awhile have been beaten down to the point that they are compliant with anything put upon them. In effect, they become Asian. A certain amount of lying, cheating, stealing(nearly everywhere in TW) becomes just accepted business practice… In Mainland, for a different example, I’ve heard employees have been beaten by bosses as a ‘first warning’ prior to firing. And corruption is rampant generally in mainland. Employees in Dalu come to accept this as the norm and forget the norms of their homeland. If you stay in TW long enough you will not feel you have anything to complain of. And you will feel no on else has any reason to complain, or post a complaint on Forumosa.

Really? :unamused:

Please tell me how long this takes, as from what I have seen we all complain sometimes…

Come on OP, spill the beans!

Thanks for telling us the details of your situation and in the process possibly identifying yourself to the company - that’s brave. There is a chance that when you complain about a bad school, you will get people jumping on your back in the forum to discredit you - this may be because Taiwanese businesses sponsor this forum, and maybe they don’t want bad press about one of their schools. But also, the post about those who stay here a long time is very true, too - their standards of acceptable behaviour are very low.

Nah, people here just jump on each other’s back because hey, this is the internet - where else can you take a bite out of someone with no repercussions? And as far as our sponsors go, they are welcome to voice their opinions, but they do not have the power to muffle voices of dissent on this board. At least not yet…

I don’t believe that forumosa.com has sold its’ coporate soul yet…though I am waiting for a counter offer from Maoman.

There have been two times that I have stepped in and “influenced” a posting. Once was when this company (the name begins with a vowel) had like a 1,000,000,000,000 posts about how bad the company was. We put in a little blurp on the ad suggesting that folks do some homework here about the said company. Another time was when this summer camp posted an ad asking for “volunteer teachers”. I called them up and asked if the students were paying for this summer camp. Oh yes they were. So I did some math:

paying students ($30,000 per)-teaching costs(0)= a lot of ill gotten loot.

And so I put up a little mesage suggesting that people find out if volunteeering to teach kids for free is really in the spirit of volunteering. Or is the company just trying to cut teachers costs in the name of volunteering.

I think the moderators of all the forums have our posters best interests in mind.
