Under the file C:\WINDOWS\Temp\ I have about 50 folders called Tempfolder (labelled a, b, ab etc). Each one has a file called dirapi.dll (7.0.0.198 director player), a file called iml32.dll (7.0.0.198 IML) and a folder called xtras which contains a file ScrnXtra.x32 (x32file)?

Should I just delete the lot of them?

Is there some site where I can look up the masses of files on my computer that I have no idea of their purpose?

all 3 files are part of macromedia director. Quite why you have 50 I don’t know… you should be able to safely delete temp directories, they should have been deleted automatically because they’re only temp.

try this, (I seem to remember you use XP):
StartMenu->All Programs->Accessories->SystemTools->Disk Cleanup
See if that deletes them for you
