It’d be very interesting to see how popular advertising like this becomes, and what user reaction is like.
Holy hell this is a equivalent to the funking spam toolbar my mom always used to get on her IE from downloading stuff. I wouldn’t be surprised if versions of this goes malicious and doesn’t erase when you delete the offending app that brought this to you.
It’s terrible for the platform and ecosystem, IMO, because it devalues push notifications overall. More noise, less signal means users don’t pay attention to push anymore and push that mattered gets drowned. I hope Google intervenes.
Personally, I hate the concept of this and think this will only be used by developers who can’t create good enough products to do a decent freemium, 3-party free, or paid app model.
But if Google intervenes, doesn’t that make the platform less “open”?
