Is traffic the worst part of Taiwan's lingering third worldism?

Police officer runs through a stop marking and pulls out in front of a scooter with the right of way… :person_facepalming:

Phone in one hand and kid with no helmet…wtf.

Those 停 lines mean nothing.

Why stop and check for a couple of seconds when you can just gamble with your life instead?

I had the last three reports declined by the same cop. They were all declined for wrong reasons. Where can I file a complaint against that?

  1. Scooter drives through red light. Had a longer video (less than 1 min) which showed his license plate closer, as he was a bit away when he ran the light. Cop declined the report because the first intersection on the video, driver only drove over the stop line. Apparently he did not even watch the full video to see on the next intersection he ran the red light.
  2. SUV changed lanes without indicating or yielding and almost caused an accident. Cop declined as in the intersection the line markings are not present.
  3. Submitted video after 6 days. Definitely less then 7 days after the traffic violation. Declined because he claims the report was 7 days after the violation. The website makes it impossible to submit after 7 days!

In the e-mail response they give you there should be a number you can call to inquire about the case and the result. I have yet to try it myself as I feel like it would be nothing but added frustration.

In terms of reports that obviously (I mean SUPER obviously) should be passing and result in a fine, I’ve found some districts to be much worse than others. Some even take almost 2 months to get a response.

I would suggest you take a screenshot from your video clip of the specific moment in which the violation occurs and upload that as one of the files. Still though, even with the video showing someone clearly changing lanes and crossing over the dashed lines or double white lanes without signaling I’ve often had the reports rejected by a couple of departments pretty consistently in Taichung as it’s not “clear enough”.

Driver in his 70s pulls out of a gas station on a small road in Minjian, Nantou. A speeding car almost rear ends him. Hard to tell but I think the speeding car also did an illegal overtake as I think he crossed over double yellows where he started overtaking. The driver from behind is not happy so he overtakes the elderly driver and blocks him and goes up to his door, opens it and starts beating him and hitting him in the head. The man said if he sees the elderly driver again he will beat him to death. 53min. later on Nat. Hwy. 3 the driver that had just assaulted the elderly man died because he rear ended a gravel truck at high speed. When rescue personal arrived the man was obviously dead as his brain matter was leaking out.

It was leaking way before he kissed goodbye the truck.

I always add at least 3 files. The video, frame shot of the license plate seen clearly. Image of the traffic violation and name the files accordingly: date_time.mp4, ABC-1234.jpg, red_light.jpg

At least that cop approved another report today. But that was impeccable.
From now on I describe where to look in the video, so he does not miss it…

That’s what I do as well but even then sometimes it still gets rejected :man_shrugging:

Part of it I think is some officers just quickly blowing through reports. It doesn’t help that the reporting website/platform is kind of crap and makes things frustrating and annoying for the person reporting and the person reviewing the report. It’s gotten to the point where I used ChatGPT to write a script to auto-fill the personal info. fields on the website just to save a little time.

Having to upload multiple files and file multiple reports in what could easily be done in one report covering multiple traffic violations is annoying. Reporting multiple violations in one report would help cut down on the amount of time officers have to pointlessly watch the exact same videos from multiple reports. Would probably help free up some space on the servers too.

In Tainan a guy runs through a red light at high speed killing a woman and injuring 2 others (2 people on 1 scooter 1 on another scooter). They are all migrant workers. The woman died at the scene. The driver drove for 400m before abandoning his car and running away. The police say the penalty for killing someone in a traffic accident and fleeing is immediately revoked and the driver will not be allowed to take another test to get a license. The driver will be prosecuted for hit-and-run, negligent manslaughter, and negligent injury.
