The facts of the violation are unclear. To avoid any loss of public rights, this bureau will not issue a report. (No footage of the red light in the direction of the violation was captured, making interpretation impossible.) (Nantou Branch, Fifth Group, Officer …)
One has to record the red light facing away from you
This is a frame from video evidence.
I don’t know any other country where such evidence is inadmissible.
I think this shows why Taiwan has so many people continuously violating traffic laws. If the police do not enforce the law evenly then people get accustomed to just breaking the law as they are very rarely stopped. I really am curious about any statistics regarding what percentage of accidents and road violations (e.g. running red lights, illegal parking, etc.) are committed by habitual offenders (more than twice for same offense).
Do habitual offenders have to get caught by the police? Because in a place where people don’t know how to use signals and they don’t know what the road signs mean you have a very high percentage of the road users are habitual offenders before an accident even occurs
In video seems he does not start braking the car until he hits cones swerves to right…almost hits another car and then notices car directly in front of him so starts to brake. I guess he just simply does not want to slow down or is just playing with his phone and not paying attention.
It just keeps on going. Another public official caught violating the traffic law. A lizhang in Chiayi ran a red light and was reported by a member of the public. After receiving the ticket rather than accepting his fault he goes online and tries to complain about being reported and says if the reporter has such a sense of justice they should take the police exam.
He even goes on an does an interview with TV news where he admits to running the red light but then claims he only makes minor traffic violations. News obtain a copy of the video used to report the lizhang and in the video we can see the lizhang make multiple serious and dangerous violations.
Illegally driving on the shoulder
Illegal overtake on the right
Running a red light and turning right.
The lizhang’s own response is that he couldn’t brake hard so he went around the car in front of him to run the red light…which is to say he was also failing to maintain a safe following distance. Now how much did all his dangerous driving get him in fines? Well he only got reported for running the red light which can be just as low as NT$600 because running a red light and turning right is treated much more lighter than running a red and going straight or turning left. All this over NT$600 fine.
Another shitty rider that should be off the roads. Rides in oncoming traffic lane for a long time, across double yellows, and hits the cammer who had their left turn signal on coming up to an intersection. This is in Taichung’s Central park.
High school student steals his father’s car keys and hands it over to his friend and 6 of them get in the car and try to race after a motorcycle on the 139 county road (popular route for motorcyclists). Well they go way too fast into a bend and crash. All of them are underage and 4 were injured in the crash.
For some reason a driver in Taichung just accelerates through a red light and slams into two people waiting at the red light on their scooters. Both riders suffered brain hemorrhaging.
Truck driver drives right into a concrete road diver and the traffic light pole. The driver is suspected of being “unfamiliar” with the road
Another day another driver who can’t make a left turn.
Another driver making an illegal right turn from the inner fast lane and cutting off a driver going straight in the outer section.
The publicly elected official has spoken, it’s only a small issue, most people don’t mind! There’s too much enforcement already if you can get fined for such a minor thing!
A serious traffic accident occurred on Yi Yi Road in Keelung City on the evening of the 13th. A man surnamed Li was making a left turn from Yi Yi Road onto Xin Si Road, crossing the double yellow lines before reaching the intersection. A motorcyclist surnamed Lin, traveling straight on the opposite side of Yi Yi Road, collided with Li’s car. Li was thrown forward and landed injured. Both men tested negative for alcohol. The cause of the accident is under investigation by the police. (Editor: Huang Shaoming)
Maybe she just fell asleep at the wheel. A driver in his 70s says he fell asleep at the wheel and drove into the oncoming traffic lane and then hit a pedestrian on a green “sidewalk”.
In Taichung I’ve seen a few posts online these days of the city digging up the corners and building “physical” sidewalks" at the corners…except they are completely flat with the road, so there’s no physical demarcation between the road and the corner of the sidewalk, meaning it’s all the same dangerous and easily able to parked on or be hit on.
Over in Changhua by one of the University’s they finally got a sidewalk put in by the main gate. I think I first posted about this plan/initiate maybe 2 or 3 years ago…it took both the students getting all the local shops on board with the project. And it’s another sidewalk that is completely level with the road…
Crazy guy on the road. Getting charged with 3 counts of dangerous driving, couple times for not using his turn signals properly, and crossing double yellows. Multiple times he drives in the oncoming traffic lane, even doing in a tunnel of all places and trying to hit people on motorcycles, even at one point losing control and going all over the road.
He events gets in their faces and when the motorcyclists say they will call the cops he says go ahead call them. The motorcyclists said he was drunk. The driver then gets in his car and flees to a nearby bettle nut stand and when police arrive he claims he drank at the bettle nut stand, AFTER he stopped driving. He claimed he already drank 3 cans of alcohol after going to the bettle nut stand. This lunatic in Hualian should be locked up. He’s going to kill someone at this rate.
Why are so many drivers/riders in Taiwan absolutely garbage at overtaking? Oh my front wheel passed you…okay let me merge right into you.
Anyone know why the local/central govt. is just so bad at making non shitty roads/lanes? Something as simple as just straight lines on major roads…
Saw this one online. Driver drives into the concrete divider…and gets the car more or less in between the regular concrete divider and the pedestrian island part.
