Seems some people were not happy with a sanctioned cycling event where 1,600 cyclists rode up to Wuling recently. Took place on a Friday. People complained that cyclists were riding side-by-side and drivers were forced to drive in the oncoming traffic lane.
I don’t think I shared this one yet…waste of 2 young lives. 17yr. old on a scooter riding and slams right into a utility pole. His 19yr. old senior was on the back. Both dead. Alcohol in the 17yr. old’s system.
68yr. old driver starts veering onto the oncoming traffic lane and then plows into a bunch of parked scooters and the sidewalk. He claims the sun was too bright.
Pedestrian in Neihu mowed down crossing an uncontrolled crosswalk by a left turning driver. I posted it before but I think the original Threads post was deleted but I just found this one on YouTube.
Unlicensed lady crashes into a truck…from a standstill. Driver is tired so he switches places with his passenger. The passenger, now driver, is unlicensed and immediately accelerates into the truck parked next to them, then leaves the scene.
Unlicensed 78yr. old driver pulling out onto the road hits a car parked on the roadside and just drives away.
Coming up to a bridge a driver suddenly decides last second he doesn’t want to go up and tries to cross over past the motorcycle lane and hits a scooter rider which sends him flying off to the side.
Unlicensed 18yr. old runs a red light and crashes in Taichung. The driver tries to flee but police quickly catch him.
Stopping for an ambulance? Sorry there’s a truck behind you, so you get hit…
Grandma buying vegetables gets caught for running a red light and refuses to cooperate with police.
Roundabouts aren’t as efficient when it’s busier. The roundabout gets full, which can cause a gridlock, and no vehicle can move. Traditional intersections are less prone to gridlock.
My experience says the opposite.
Roundabouts also take up more space. Installing a roundabout might mean expanding the intersection. In some downtowns, that means tearing down buildings or removing sidewalks.
That’s usually not necessary. Well, unless you want too keep a gazillion lanes for cars.
An ambulance runs a red light at a pretty good speed and hits and kills a man his 60s going straight on a green. The ambulance driver is the 23yr. old boss of the company. The boss doesn’t have a driver’s license. He decided to drive the ambulance himself because all the drivers were already out and about and there was no else left to drive it. Police confirmed he ran through the red light and hit the rider. The rider was trapped under the vehicle for an hour and died from his injuries. The unlicensed driver was transferring a patient to Neihu Tri-Service hospital…
The increased penalties announced a while ago for using fake license plates will finally come into effect on July 15th.
Revised maximum penalty to NT$72,000 and allows for the vehicle to immediately be impounded or even confiscated in more serious cases.
According to Highway Bureau statistics, forged license plate cases rose from 95 in 2021 to 169 in 2022 and 251 in 2023. As of October last year, the number had reached 1,012, resembling a year-on-year increase of 464%.
The bureau said about 80% of the forged plates involved non-valid license numbers, typically tied to suspended, revoked, or scrapped vehicles. Meanwhile, 16% were linked to suspected criminal activity.
After police have been equipping police cars with AI detection systems it seems to have helped quite a bit with cracking down on these fake plates. Still though it continues to be a problem.
Some news involving fake plates this past month:
Guy taking out his wife is mad for being stopped by a police officer for being suspected of having a fake plate. He doesn’t comply with the officer and doesn’t provide any ID or papers. Just keeps yelling at the officer and keeps asking him does he have a search warrant. He’s screaming so much you can practically feel the spit coming out of his mouth. His license plate was indeed fake.
Guy drives out to help his friend who isn’t feeling well. When police arrive to check up on everyone they find that the guy who went to find his friend seemed nervous and upon examining the car’s plate info they saw it was registered to a 2025 vehicle, not the 10+ yr. old vehicle that was in front of them…and had parts being held together by duct tape.
Police officer on patrol sees that a car in front of him has no info. in the database, indicating it’s extremely likely it’s a fake plate. He has the driver pull over..and he immediately recognizes the driver because he had already caught the same guy a week before for driving with fake plates on another vehicle.
Car dealership boss notices a car with a plate number the exact same as the plates they have for the “test” plate. He calls the police. Police of course see that it’s a fake plate and they even find various drugs in the vehicle.
What did it look like before? Well, thank you for asking. Let me dive into my archives!
Ah! The previous pictures were approaching from the west, and here we are approaching the same 7-11 from the north, back in March. Rainy day, and of course a car’s parked illegally on the corner, but it looks like there’s space to squeeze a wheelchair through…
Still, silver lining, she did manage to land three tickets that were all accepted: driving on the wrong side of the road (that’s how she initially approached the corner), driving on a pedestrian crossing (the police seem oddly happy to accept tickets for this), and fucking off without using a turn signal (I think that’s exactly how it’s described in the Road Traffic Management and Penalty Act).
Not sure how I missed this but apparently the new regulations for window tints, which only apply to new vehicles next year, is only for the tint film…not the VLT of the tint film and the window. This means if you have a window from the factory with a 90% or 80% VLT and install a window tint film with 70% VLT, the actual VLT between the two drops to 63% or 56% respectively.
With factory side windows at 90 or 80 percent and installing 40% VLT tint that would drop actual VLT of window + tint to 36% and 32% respectively.
Would not be at all surprised if this was purposely done, like a large number of the traffic “safety improvements” it’s window dressing only and provides no real change at all.
We all know roadworks signalling it’s more valuable than those trucks. Just in case there was a doubt, they’re also more valuable than people. At least more than working people.
Jesus…couldn’t even be bothered to at least put up a cone…not even the common and insanely lazy cone placement only centimeters away from the trucks, work area, etc. etc.
Another lack of road closure. Motorcycle detour lane as under 250cc motorcycles are banned from going straight and must go around and the area has work being done. Digger is out on the road but the road isn’t closed or marked off leading a group of scooters to ride up pretty close to it.
WTF… car is hit by another car causing him to slam into 3 pedestrians on a sidewalk on the other side of the road in Bali, New Taipei.

Suspecting Ex-Wife’s Current Partner of Interference, Man in Bali Engages in Car Chase — Incident Involves 3 Pedestrians and 11 Vehicles
Last night (July 1), a chain-reaction traffic accident occurred in Bali District, New Taipei City, reportedly stemming from a romantic dispute. The chaos affected 11 nearby vehicles and injured 3 pedestrians. Investigations revealed that a man surnamed Fang suspected his ex-wife’s new boyfriend, a man surnamed Chen, of being the main reason for their divorce. When Fang unexpectedly encountered Chen while driving in Bali that evening, a heated verbal confrontation broke out, leading to a dangerous car chase. Police later arrested Fang and his three accomplices and also detained Chen. All individuals involved were referred to the District Prosecutors’ Office on charges including public endangerment, disturbing the peace, intimidation, and property damage.
According to reports, the 32-year-old Fang had recently divorced his wife and believed that their marriage ended due to the involvement of Chen, also 32 years old. The two men had previously exchanged insults and threats online.
At around 7 PM on July 1, Fang was driving through the Bali redevelopment area with a 16-year-old surnamed Peng, a 17-year-old surnamed Quan, and a 27-year-old surnamed Chang. They were in two separate vehicles. Near the Shihsanhang Museum of Archaeology, they happened to cross paths with Chen’s car. Enraged, Fang and Chen began shouting at each other through their car windows.
Fang and his group then began tailing Chen’s vehicle. The pursuit extended from the redevelopment zone into the old city area. On Zhongshan Road Section 2, Fang’s group reportedly collided with Chen’s car, causing it to veer into oncoming traffic and crash into 11 parked scooters. Three pedestrians — a 28-year-old woman surnamed Chang, a 34-year-old man surnamed Huang, and a 44-year-old woman also surnamed Huang — were injured. Fortunately, their injuries were minor.
After the crash, Fang and his group brazenly surrounded Chen’s car, wielding baseball bats and soft batons. They shouted at Chen, who was trapped inside the vehicle, and struck the car. Police were quickly dispatched and arrested all four suspects at the scene. They were later transferred to the Shilin District Prosecutors’ Office on multiple charges. Chen was also referred for investigation on suspicion of public endangerment, pending further legal determination.

The main concerns cited in the survey were the perceptions that motorcyclists do not follow traffic rules, overtake at will, and weave between vehicles, posing safety risks and making car drivers feel anxious, the bureau said.
Big bikes tend to be the best riders on the roads here, on average. How often do you see them not signal a turn, run red lights, or wander across road markings? I’d guess 60% of the survey respondents don’t actually know the laws that they think are being broken.
The major issue is the anxiety. Big bikes are scary.
