Is traffic the worst part of Taiwan's lingering third worldism?

Yeah, quality of the food is

It’s a busy road and this place gets a lot of drive by customers on their long road trip. Most are there just to buy buns and keep going. They are looking for short time parking which the area is lacking.

I was there a few times. Did not have any issues with quality.
We stopped at a yellow line and 3 minutes is not a lot of time, so I had to circle the block in my car several times until they were done buying. I did not find a legal parking space that is reasonably close at that time.

People passing there are not familiar with the area and won’t bother driving around 15 minutes to find parking.

Unfortunate this solution did not work out. Strange that they used help from their ā€˜friend’.

On a similar note in Taichung I often see fast food drive through lines or shopping center parking entrances backed up so much that cars are waiting in line on the road. And police are fine with it!

e.g. here on weekends at Costco in Taichung the right lane with the red no stopping line will have a very long line of cars waiting to enter the parking lot. When it gets busy the cars could be stopped for more than 5 minutes without moving.

Should police put a camera and bag cash from thousands of traffic tickets there?

So the bun place customers might take this approach. Waiting (temporary parking) on the road in a ā€˜traffic jam’ is not illegal. So just don’t drive onto the sidewalk and stop on the road

That costco looks tame compared to the kaohsiung one. Where’s the hundred’s of scooters and a busy main road?

I am at a loss as to why this true/false question would be included in the driver’s knowledge test…

is it in case someone decides to drink their battery acid??

Especially the dashun rd one with the new train going through the middle. On the other hand, the driving has gotten a lot better in k town. Still dog shit. But still kuch better than before. This gentrification that has been happening there is having results. Slowly, but surely. Certia. Places like aozhidi ar elite little Taipei a like wannabe spots. The fashion, attitudes, rent, everything

When it comes to government, sometimes it’s best not to ask for a logical reasoning. For your own mental well being. They fuck up the lines, signs, lights etc. I am curious though, if that is actually on the test. Usually it’s multiple choice on those tests….for efficiency. And totally proving safety

There are 2

T / F

If people need a chemistry background for driving whilst not needing to know how to turn at a light or park….welp, the fight is real. Folks need to be smarter, but not THAT kind of smart lol.

I think everyone here agrees the Taiwanese driver licensing tests are not fit for purpose. I’m just demonstrating how that is a multiple choice question

I’m referring to the one near ikea. I’m refusing to believe anything north of the orange line is Kaohsiung.

It is on the practice test app I’m using. Can’t speak for actual test. Actual test has both multiple choice and yes/no questions.

Namaxia is a bit of a stretch

More evidence of just because you have them doesn’t mean you use them…

Lady pulls out from market parking lot without even looking and right into a large truck getting herself run over and killed. I passed by the accident about an hour after it happened and I could only see the truck and the police. I couldn’t tell what happened and then a day later I saw it in the news.

We’ve all seen many people on the roads here pull out without looking, blow through stop/yield signs or markings without even taking a glance…the fact that accidents like this don’t happen a lot more is what’s more surprising to me.

Earlier that same day I was almost hit by a lady who pulled out of a car wash into the road while looking right at me. There were even cars right behind me. I slowed down and laid on the horn a bit and she stopped, almost blocking the whole lane. I saw her looking at me the whole time.

Merry Christmas. Passed by this earlier today. Taichung’s JinHua N. Road (Evolution N. Rd.) pedestrian island claims another 三寶.

Go don’t stop will be ok

How long before content creators set up camp there to live-stream the next one? That would certainly draw a significant audience, I would assume.

That’s so Taiwan, and it almost feels like they don’t care about getting hit. The same goes for looking into the rear mirror. I think most people never do it, though that’s just an assumption, based on nothing but my understanding of locals’ typical behavior.

or trying to kill/maim other people.

Foreign tourist cycling through Taroko is hit after a truck driver does a dumb overtake and comes back over way too close and hits the cyclist. Oh yeah also an illegal overtake since it’s double yellow. It’s another person on the road that has no idea how to overtake and keep safe distance when moving back over…

The tourist was sent to the hospital but his injuries are reportedly not serious.
