Is your Internet Connection Behaving Strange too?

Is anyone else having a problem accessing google today? All afternoon, I’ve had no access or partial access and very long times for it to work. Everything else on the web works fine.

Very slow right now.

There was a fire at one of the ISPs this afternoon.

Thanks for confirming. I was worried I might have some kind of anti google virus or something.

Oh good, so it wasn’t just me then.

I’m experiencing some major Internet slowness right now.

My MyFone 3G has been slow all afternoon, and has now stopped working…is that related?

None of the windows machines at work could access google today. On one PC I even was redirected to some fake Google page with a different search engine on it.
Now, I am back at home and have similar problems on my linux pc. My wife who uses widows 7 Ultimate says that she cant go to youtube either.
By the way, the Microsoft server had been hacked and it was discovered a couple of days ago.

Forumosa is hanging too.

Here are my log-files from the past hour.
The IP numbers starting with 74 are from google. However, the Google DC are supposed to be linux machines not windows.
Maybe someone can explain this to me. AM I misinterpreting these lines?

Not for you is where my IP is.

yeah YouTube at home and Facebook on my iPhone both VERY slow… since about 7pm
Speed ok to the server in Taiwan…

Anyone got news on the slowness/fire?

My gmail doesn’t seem to be working…maybe also related?

I read there’s a fire at one of Hinet’s datacenter… that might explain the problem.

Yup, im wifi tethering from my smartphone (chunghua) in Kaohsiung and its extremely laggy.

My friend in Xizhi Taipei reports the internet is right off over there. My other friend in Kaohsiung reports dsl fixed line is laggy too.

Very slow on Kbro / Taiwan Mobile. I assume the issue is somewhere else because local websites are fine…

Taichung almost not working…glad i saw this post before i threw my new PC over the balcony in frustration

Thanks!
That’s good to know so no action required on my side here.
Hopefully, they’ll fix it soon.

chunghua Data center in Neihu had a massive (and catastrophic) electical explosion and fire. No one know for sure but this is a weeks to months type of problem.

It just happened today, but most of the big boys (yahoo, Google) have been crippled today.

But when it comes to the internet, it’s hard to say how long and how much scrambling it will take to fix things.

If you don’t understand this technical mumbo jumbo, just take solace In the words of the late Senate Commerce Chair Ted Stevens “[The internet] is a series of tubes. And if you don’t understand, those tubes can be filled and if they are filled, when you put your message in, it gets in line and it’s going to be delayed by anyone that puts into that tube enormous amounts of material”

Could it be the substandard “chabuduo” electrical wirings common in Taiwan?

Kbro made an announcement yesterday they’d be doing work today. I just got back on now.

I am most pleased and, yes, vindicated, for my occasional uncontrolled violent frustrations with electronics.

TG They are doing work but this is Taiwan. :unamused: I have no Google,Yahoo kind of works for 20% of sites slowly. Fortunately Hotmail working for now.
Anyone know a search engine that works? Makes you realise how much we rely on something that didn’t exist 30 years ago for the masses  What the hell did we used to do?
