ISP's in Kaohsiung City

I apologize if this is the wrong thread as I was hoping to find a sticky about some of the best and worst ISP’s around. As part of my current rental contract I am with Hinet on their 12mb ADSL service. Their speeds are good but I find that my internet goes down a lot with the most recent outage being 36 hours. I was wondering if this is characeristic of Hinet, are there better ISP’s in Kaohsiung? What do you guys recommend?

The second part of my question relates to pings/latency as far as online gaming. My two brothers (England and Ireland) and I used to game online when I was living in Korea just a few months ago mostly on European servers with decent ping considering the distance (150±ms) but in Taiwan the pings to sites like BBC are in their 300’s. Is there a really good ISP for gaming?

Most of the DSL lines are provided by Hinet on the island, regardless of which company is your ISP. I’d phone up and get someone to have a look at the line/equipment… if the outages are frequent.

But latencies for European sites aren’t particularly good… I don’t know why.

Thanks for the information Ken, I figured I would have to do something like that but it is good to know that Hinet is the main provider in Taiwan.
