Have any of you with APRC’s exchanged your paper APRC for a chip one? I still have the paper one and I’m wondering when I exchange it for a chip one whether any of the information printed on the card will differ from now. (I like the fact that there is no time-limit-to-renewal on the current card and wonder whether this will continue to be the case?) Also, there have been rumors in the past about needing to renew the APRC after 10 years have passed but I’ve so far never seen anything to corroborate this in law or practice. Has anyone heard anything more about this?
Mine was issued in Nov. 2007 and is a plastic card. No chip, just a bar code on the back that immigration can scan when I leave or enter the country.
No expiration date. I think the renewal that you speak of is just a formality to update/get you a new card, rather than a formal re-application. The only thing that you are required to do according to the info that I received from the NIA upon receiving my APRC is to notify them within 15 days of change of address or issue of a new passport from your country of citizenship.
