It's almost that time again

Just curious what the rest of you are up to for New Years. Find any great deals yet? I wanted to go to Nepal but the airfare alone is around NTD30,000 so that’s out. It seems like the it jumps after Feb 4 no matter where you want to go. The best deal is to Philip Beans but I would much prefer Indonesia. And then there are the two Koh Changs of Thailand. One on the Andaman sea side and one in the gulf of Thailand. Anyone been there? I’ve been to most of the other Kohs in Thailand. Basically I want to go somewhere that I can do a Robinson Curusoe kind of deal only with a bungalow and snorkling and big hills to walk up and maybe the odd bit of schmoozing with warm and brown warm people…

I just bought ticket (taipei-bangkok-kathmandu) two way,I paid NTD21,700.

I’m taking a case of beer into the bathroom and I’m not coming out. Any must see and must do items?

Seriously, I need some suggestions:

What can I do (where can I go) inside of Taiwan during Chinese New Year and escape the crowds, other than the top of Yang Ming Shan?

It doesn’t have to be overly exciting, but I want to go where everyone else isn’t.

Ideas?

You could join Richard in the bathroom. I am sure the two of you could think of something to do in there.

Never let it be said that Forumosans aren’t helpful !

NT21,000? Wow. Where did you find that deal?

Taipei. Seriosuly. Everyone else buggers off to their hometowns leaving Taipei nice and quiet (apart from firecrackers going off every 2 minutes for 2 weeks). Don’t even think of travelling around the island at CNY unless you enjoy sitting for hours in traffic.
Don’t even think of travelling around the island at CNY unless you enjoy sitting for hours in traffic.
Traffic was fine last time – but that was on motorbikes.

Traffic was especially nice going through Taipei but other places were also fine.

Longest tailbacks were going down Yangmingshan but we were able to filter past the cars of course.

Nantou, Hualian, Ilan, Hsinchu and Miaoli counties were all OK; comparable with a normal weekend.

I went to Green Island two years ago. Apart from a 12 hour bus ride back to Hsin-chu. The trip was perfect. The island is quiet and beatiful. It has everything you need, but not a lot of extras. There is a hotspring and nice ( a little easy) hiking. You can even go snorkeling. They have wetsuits. The absolute worst part is getting to Taitung and back again. The trains fill-up early and the buses take all day. If you plan ahead for the trip to Taitung then everything else is great.

If you want something even a little more quiet, a lot of the people I met on Green Island and in Taitung had really good things to say about Lanyu.

Good luck and have agreat CNY. I’m off to Vietnam.

This is the normal rate to Nepal from Taipei by TG.If you ask any Travel agency, the rate would not be to much higher.I got it from one of my friend.

Oops. I bought my ticket to Indonesia after checking prices to Nepal on the internet. Somehow I thought they would actually be cheaper that way. Anywho I got a return flight to Jakarta for 14,000 so that’s not bad. From there I intend to fly to Sulawesi and then bus - boat - train back to Jakarta. I’ll save Nepal for another time I guess.

Before you go to travel in Nepal PM me,I will help you to get all the informations about Nepal.

Thanks! :notworthy:
