If Jackie Chan is a Chinese celebrity, that means he has no choice. We all know that in order to appear on TV in China you must sing to CCP’s tune. Otherwise you are shut out forever.
And I’m sure he doesn’t want his movies and shows to be banned in China.
Look at every American movie made in the last 5 years, all by Chinese companies.
The problem is by the time he started sucking up to the CCP, he was already an international celebrity. Yes, he is comfortably well off in China now, but he was equally well off back in the early 2000s. If he stayed away from CCP boot licking and continued to focus on the US and the overseas Chinese markets, his films would sell in China regardless.
You’re just being emotional. There’s plenty of actors who aren’t being active CCP lapdogs, and haven’t seen their movies being banned. Stephen Chow is a great example I think.
Truth is Chan wholeheartedly sold himself out to the CCP, there’s no reason to find excuses for him because you enjoyed his movies when you were a kid.
